Breed Notes 21st December 2018 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

I start by wishing you all a Very Happy Christmas; it looks as if it very unlikely that there will be any snow and there will be a relatively calm period of weather, so there should not be any travel problems. I would also like to wish you a Happy and Healthy 2019 as there will be no notes on 28th December.

Our judge at LKA was Alf Dobson (Fossfell), he and his wife Shirley are the club’s Patrons, and are founder members of the club having over the years served on the committee in various capacities .When Alf was club secretary he wrote the history  of the club  ‘The First Ten  Years’ and he and Shirley are mentioned in the Kitty Heffer book ‘The Norwegian Buhund’  published in  1972.They also imported Sonja from Norway who was born in 1962, she was meant to be in pup but missed, however she later produced Ch Fossfell Bright eyes who was Wolf Sable and his sister Fossfell Helga.

Alf last judged the breed at SKC in May 2015 and over the years has judged them on 17 times with CCs, which shows how long he has been in the breed and a judge. Alf found his BOB & BCC in Jacqui and Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Knytshall Angel Delight RL2 she is by Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Saw Us Rex x Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall, this was her second CC she also has a RCC, she was handled by Alysha Branchflower. RBCC her 9th Margaret Garvie’s Rhialis Psyche ShCM she also has 14 CC she is by Ch /Am Ch Visions Dino of Trollheimen(Imp USA) (Casper) x Ch Ailort Just Jinks. DCC his 7th Anne Smith’s Ch Arnscroft Never Di (Oskar )by Casper x Arnscroft Di Sing On Ice he also has 2RCCs. Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack won his 7th RCC he also has 3 CCs,he is by Ch & Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor Ir J Ch x Ch A Di Or Comply. BV was Jacqui & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall RL1Ex, she is the dam of the BOB and is by Ch Knytshall Ferdig x Int/Ir Ch Trelowen Yn Tek to Benzara she has 7CCs & 6RCCs.There were no puppies as sadly the only puppy entered, was coming from Eire, but due to the bad weather conditions all the ferries were all cancelled. There are a number of puppies waiting in the wings, who are not quite old enough at the moment to be shown, but hopefully next year there will be puppies at most shows.

The Sunday of LKA held Rally & Obreedience classes, two years ago we won the Obreedience, last year sadly we did not go because the snow and unfortunately this year our entry did not arrive, which I did not discover until I enquired about our passes. Happily though, Sarah Stonton had entered the Rally with Jack who continued with his successes from the day before, by gaining a qualifying score in Rally Level one, Sarah also competed with her Trelowen Andrea AW(S) but she didn’t quite mange a qualifying score. Lisa Strong competed with Loki but after a long  weekend left before the scores were posted, I gather they had a very enjoyable day, and certainly flew the flag for the breed, Lisa took Eris her 4 plus month old puppy as a spectator dog, I gather she behaved impeccably not only at the show on both days but in the hotel, great socialisation for her. I gather several people were very impressed with her, some making the usual comment ‘I did not know they came in black’! I am looking forward to meeting her soon.

LKA is the last Ch show of the season and often the overall ‘Top Dog’ and the ‘Top Dog’ in many breeds is decided here, it certainly did this year in Buhunds, it was very tight at the top, but in the end it was Anne Smith’s Oskar who took the top spot for 2018, his wins this year included BOB at Crufts and DCC at the club show. Top Puppy is Kerry & Fritz Frost, Addrienne Frost Treadwell & Jacqui Walmsley’s Trelowen Amelia At Frostisen by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola, she lives with Jacqui. Top Breeder is again Di Stirling with her Arnscroft Kennel, as well as being a very successful Kennel in the UK she has also bred dogs who are Champions Norway and the US.

It was great to hear that Celia Vines Ch Ailort Highlander at Parvodene JW ShCM who was Top Buhund in 2010 flew the flag at Bristol and District Dog Club show on December 9th where he was BOB & Best Pastoral Veteran.
