NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Working and Pastoral Breeds of Wales was held on Easter Saturday 20th April, for many years we have only had three classes. There was a small but quality entry with all the dogs and bitches in open being Champions. Our judge was Mrs Parry she found her BOB in Nancy Kent’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall (Jamie), who Nancy co owns with Jacqui and Michael Cobb. He is by Am/Can Gr Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman (Idar ) x Ch Maidofcopper for  Koromandel (Imp Fin)JW(Pikka),he is on a roll having been BOB at Crufts this year, where he also gained his crown.RBD & BV Celia Vines evergreen Ch Ailort Highlander at Parvodene JW ShCM by Ch Olpenden Malachy at Parvodene x Ch Fullani Farek, he is a previous Buhund of the year.BB Jenny Shorer-Wheeler’s Pikka,  Jamie’s dam she is by Nor Ch Gnipagrottensqu x Swe/Fin Ch Cipacan Mila Magia, .Jenny did not show her at Crufts this year as she had won the bitch CC there for the three previous years. RBB & BP at her first Ch show Knytshall Eloise who has the same owners as Jamie, she is by Blakk ExtacyVan Koekie’s Ranch (Imp Ned) x Ch Trollheimen Elske To Knytshall. Jenny said it was a fabulous day, with fun, sun and the biggest ring on the showground.

Across the Irish Sea on the Saturday Buhunds were also strutting their way round the show ring, at the Combined Canine All Breed International Ch show. The judge was Mrs S Desserne who apparently wanted them to be shown on the table! She found her BOB Green Star Dog & CACIB Dog in Kerry & Fritz Frost’s Ir Ch Trelowen  Dison, he is co owned with Dermont Buckley who is a local farmer and is a working sheepdog, so definitely fit for purpose. He is by Ch Trelowen  Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola .RGSD Brenda and Tony Bethell’s  Ir Ch Zodiac’s Featuring Fredrik at Taevas of Minforst (Ir Jun Ch)(IMP US)(CW19)(Freddy) by Am Ch Hundehaven’s Captain Voyger x Am Ch Zodiac’s Gracious Gretchen. RBOB & GSB Brenda and Tony’s homebred Minforst Galadriel (CW19) by Freddy x Int/Lux Ch Arnscroft Di Ola. BP & PG2 Kerry & Fritz Frost  Addreinne Frost -Treadwell ,Jacqui Walmsley Leggatts Fernando From Frostisen (Zorro)by Frostisen Winsome x  Knytshall Noor. The following day was the Combined Canine All Breed National Ch show so no CACIBs as these are the International CCs. The judge was Tino Pehar from Croatia he found his BOB & BD in Dison RGSD Zorro GSB RBOB & BP Leggatts  Gimmegimmegimme from Frostisen(Keeva) she is Zorro’s litter sister and is owned by Kerry, Fritz, Addreienne,Jacqui and Caro Flanagan. Mr Pehar had to be corrected as he seemed to think the breed should have a sloping top line!

Many of you will remember Kimura Viking (Eric)(Imp Nor) who spent some months here on his way from Norway to Australia, he is full brother to Kirsty Irvine’s Kimura Vera With Tapui and was BP dog at Crufts in 2016. He is now an Australian Ch and owner Caroline Russell Catt has said over the Easter weekend, he made history by being the first Norwegians Buhund to be awarded BIS All Breeds at the Mount City & District Kennel Club Show. The judges were Prof B Corbitt and Mrs S Brackman.

I am sure you will all have heard of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog, which is a training scheme with the idea to make your dog a model citizen and a perfect member of the family. There are 4 tests, Puppy, Bronze Silver & Gold. The puppy test is taken during the training lessons but the others have their own tests with a list of things the dog has to do for each test, and the owner has to answer care questions. The Gold cannot be taken until the dog is 12months old. Recently Sue Croker said she is very proud that her 8 month old puppy Leggatts Voulez Vous has passed her Bronze Test and her mother Knytshall Noor Ul Ain her Silver Test, congratulations.

I also saw on the Buhund forum that Chris Booth’s Loki (Arnscroft Di Monde Boy) had passed his Silver and their Elkhound Elkie her Gold. I asked Chris if he could tell me about Loki as I had not met him. Apparently he had originally belonged to the cousin of Rima who is Chris’s partner. When he was 4 months old Rima found herself driving up to see him, as her cousin had decided that their lifestyle did not suit a puppy. Rima and Chris had talked about finding a companion for Elkie, so of course Rima found herself driving home with Loki. He had only had very basic training but luckily only being 4months as Chris says ‘that was easy to fix, having enjoyed training Elkie’. The first week Elkie wasn’t sure she liked her new companion having been the spoilt only child, but gradually warmed to him. Both dogs are now the star pupils at the Obedience classes they go to each week and Loki is training for his Gold, which I am sure he will gain without too many problems. Chris sent me some lovely photos of Loki with the article about him, which I am forwarding to Anne for the Autumn Bu news.
