Norwegian Buhund

Breed Notes 4th January 2019 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Those of you who went to LKA will have realised that Jacqui Walmsley was not with you, she wrote ‘that while all the lovely Buhund People were representing our wonderful breed at LKA, I was heading to Amsterdam. You have probably heard me whinging that Our Dogs MD goes jetting off all over the world, while I get to stand in a tent in a damp field. Well Vince finally gave in and took me to the Amsterdam Winners Show. Day I was Buhund day and I met up with Lies and Moles dad Silas. I arrived at the ring just in time to see the judging. Silas took Best Dog and Best Veteran. His only competition was a lovely little bitch owned by Lydia Massee who took the CAC CACIB & BOB. Later in the day I met up with Lydia and her mum, Jet Asselberg. It was lovely to meet with them, as previously I had only spoken through Face Book. We had a lovely chat and an in-depth conversation regarding our wonderful breed. Back at the Hotel, we were treated to a magical Winter Wonderland Evening of Speeches, presentations and the yearly singing of Happy Birthday to Vince (his birthday is in June) but this has never stopped them! Day 2 dawns and we have 2 inches of snow however the show must go on. I managed to get round to the White Shepherd ring to speak to exhibitors. In the afternoon I took my place in the Best In Show ring live streaming, I started with the Dutch Junior Handler of the Year, which is obviously very close to my heart. I filmed the 6 remaining groups and Best In Show, a real honour. The Dutch Kennel Club really looked after us. I met many exhibitors from all over the world, and a few from the UK. It was a real shame to miss LKA, one of my favourite shows, but I had an amazing time. Fingers crossed Vince let’s me loose again’.

On the Sunday before Christmas 6 members and their dogs made their way to Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Huntingdon. There was Lisa Strong with Loki and puppy Eris, Sarah Stonton with Loxy and Jack, Lillian & Mike Rumsey with Anya, they have all been doing the walk fairly regularly. This time daughter Debbie and her partner Richard came along with their 5 agility dogs, plus puppy Silver and a visitor who is a Romanian rescue and bringing up the rear was me with puppy, Time. Between us there were 6 Buhunds, 2 PSDs, 1 Cavalier, 1 Working Cocker & 2 x breeds, 13 dogs in all. It was a lovely day on the Saturday but the Sunday was very soggy, but nobody seemed to mind. It was not long before all the dogs were tearing around off lead, in and out of the large and small ponds. We had thought we would carry Time if he was tired, but he was having none of that! Near the car park there is a dog friendly cafe but not perhaps for 13 dogs, so at the end of the walk most retired to their various vehicles to recover, while their owners enjoyed a warm cup of something. Only Time, Eris and Loki visited the cafe, it was not long before a lady came up enquiring what breed they were, we had a long chat and she seemed very interested. Eris is black and Loki and Time wheaten so it was great having the two colours. Most of you know I am admin for the Norwegian Buhund Forum and later the same evening, I had a request from the same lady to join, she wrote ‘I spoke to a group of ladies today that had these lovely dogs, and I would be interested to learn more about the breed’. So hopefully she may have one in the future.

No Ch show in the UK but in Eire, The Dublin All breed Ch show was held on the 27th Dec and under judge Mrs S Kealy BOB & GSD was Trelowen Aviator at Frostisen by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun  x Trelowen Lola.RGSD & RBOB  Brenda and Tony Bethell’s Ir Ch Zodiac’s Featuring Fredrik At Taevas Of Minforst Jun Ir Ch(Imp USA)(Freddy) by Ch Hundehaven’s Captain Voyger x Am Ch Zodiac’s Gracious Gretchen.GSB Kyon’s Dronningen Av Frostisen(Imp Can)by Nor Ch Kimura’s Uno x Ch Kyons Nordic Princess. Also, on the 27th back in the UK, Stourbridge & District Canine Society held an open show at Perdiswell Leisure Centre. For a number of years the show had Buhund classes but owing to lack of entries they now have to enter AVNSC, this year it was down to Jenny Shorer-Wheelers Ch MaidofCopper For Koromandel to fly the Buhund flag, she was BAVNSC under Marion Sargent & PG1 under Tony Allcock. Many congratulations.

I wish you and your canine friends a Happy and Healthy 2019.
