Breed Notes 8th March 2019 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Friday was Pastoral day at Crufts, we were second in the ring after 92 Corgis, so the breed did not start until   about 2pm.Our judge was Celia Vines who is a long-time club member and exhibitor, her Ch Ailort Highlander at Parvodene ShCM is a past Top Dog in the breed, she last judged the breed at LKA in 2016. Celia also gives CCs in Border Collies, Smooth Collies, German Shepherds and Finnish Lapphunds. It was a day to remember for several people, first and foremost Nancy Kent and her Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall (Jamie), who she co owns with Jacqui and Michael Cobb. He is by Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman (Idar) x Ch Maidofcopper for Koromandel (Imp Fin) JW. Jamie is Nancy’s first Ch and is only 22months old. He won his first CC from Minor puppy under Judith Hearson at LKA 2017; his second from Junior under Jeff Horswell at the National in 2018.He also has 4RCCs. He was bred by Jenny Shorer- Wheeler, it was also a special day for her as he is her first Buhund Champion, although she has bred several Alaskan Malamute Champions. It was also special for Karin Klouman (Kyon), who had come all the way from Canada to be at Crufts. Jamie’s sire was bred by Karin, I am sure you will remember he spent several months here gaining his UK title and helping the gene pool. RDCC his 8th Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack, he gained his crown at Richmond last year, and is by Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor x Ch Arnscroft Di Or Comply.BDP & BP Fritz Frost’s Fabrajs Your  Obedient Servant Mr Burr.(Imp US)bred by Faye Adcox he is by  Kyon’ Langveis Reisende x Ch Trollheimen’s Pink Tourmaline,so again a sire bred by Karin. BCC Sue  Sercombe’s Trelowen Dizzy Rascal by Ir Ch Tokyn Durian x Trelowen Pink Pigeon, this was her second CC having won her first at Windsor  last year .RBCC her 10th Margaret Garvie’s Ch Rhialis Psyche ShCM by Ch /Am Ch Visions Dino of Trollheimen x Ch Ailort Just Jinks she also has 11CCs.BBP Kerry & Fritz Frost & Karin Klouman’s Kyon’s Dronningen Av Frostisen(Imp Can)she is by Nor Ch Kimura’s Uno x Ch Kyons Nordic Princess. At Manchester she was BP, again bred by Karin so seeing her breeding do so well, must have made long trip defiantly seem worth it. Both puppies now live in Southern Ireland as does the bitch CC winner but I am sure the wins made all the travelling worth it, let us hope Brexit does not cause a problem for the dogs coming from overseas next year.BV Neil Hood’s Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us  Rex ShCM by Ch /Ir Ch Arnscroft Kimura x Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Di-Nahs-Mite he has 5CCs & 6RCCs.He has had a great Veteran career so far, he was 2nd in the Pastoral Veteran Group at Windsor last year under Dr Andreas Schemel and won the group at Richmond under Mrs Sheila Jakeman going onto RBVIS.

There was of course a picnic at the benches and with a lovely International entry the picnic also had an International flavour.

We were worried about the weather last year before Crufts, as the ‘Beast from the East’ had only just left, in fact some exhibitors did not make it as they were still snowed in. This year we had record breaking high temperatures the week before, so we thought everything would be fine. Then the weekend before everything went downhill and on March 3rd Brenda Bethell wrote:- ‘we left  in the rain this morning for South  Tipperary Open show to give Ella  her last ring practice before Crufts and boy was she naughty, however she was awarded BOB and G2.We took Freya  for a practice run in the Champion  Stakes but poor girl did not  get in, as we took one look at the weather that storm Freya had deposited and came home early, to find everything covered in snow.’ Happily, it did not last, and Brenda and Tony made it safely to Crufts and it was lovely to catch up with them there.

Finally, congratulations to Anne Smith who was able to collect Ch Arnscroft Never Say Di (Oskar) Top Buhund award for last year. A lovely large towel with Top Buhund written across it and of course a Rosette.

Will talk about Discover Dogs next week.
