NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Crufts entries have finally closed after two extended closing dates which is unusual for Crufts but I guess it is a sign of the times. We are first in ring 16 which is in Hall 4 on the Friday morning 10th March, our judge is David Cavill judging the breed for the 10th time, the last time was in 2019 at Bath. He gives CCs in 4 Hound Breeds 9 Pastoral 12 Utility 1Toy and 5 Working. The show will obviously be benched.

The next Ch show for the breed but without CCs is Working and Pastoral Breeds of Wales, held on The Royal Welsh Showground Builth Wells on 15th April. There are 4 classes for judge Grahame Hill who gives CCs in 26 Hound Breeds 13 Pastoral 1 Utility and 5 Working. The show will be un benched.

Next it is WELKS also without CCs held on the on 29th April on Three Counties Showground Malvern. The judge is Val Dyer JP who gives CCs in 4 Pastoral Breeds and 3 Utility. The show will be benched.

Next it is one of the All-Breed Ch Shows so with CCs for us, Birmingham National on May 4th.The classification also includes Veterans and Special Beginners. The judge is Britt-Marie Young giving CCs in the breed for the first time. She gives CCs in 9 Pastoral Breeds and 2 Working. The show is benched.

The next show also has CCs for All Breeds, SKC held on 21st May on the Royal Highland Showground Edinburgh. The judge is TJH Richards who last judged the breed at Bath in 2021 he gives CCs in 2 Pastoral Breeds and 7 Working. It has Veterans, Special Beginners and Good Citizen classes. The show will be inside but unblenched. The next All Breed Ch show is at the other end of the country, Bath held on their own Three Shires Field on 27th May with judge Robin Newhouse, he last judged the breed at our Ch show in 2021.He gives CCs in 23 Pastoral Breeds 3 Utility and 10 Working. The show will be benched.

Three Counties Ch show held on their own showground in Malvern is on the 8th June again has no CCs for the breed, but has a full classification including veterans. The judge is Mrs D Richards who gives CCs in 4 Working Breeds. The show is benched. Then it is up north again to Blackpool Ch show held on 25th June at Redwood Park nr Preston again with no CCs but a good classification with 5 classes for each sex including veteran, the judge is Jacky Cutler who gives CCs in 2 Pastoral Breeds. The show is un benched.

It is then back down south for the next All Breed Show held on 30th June at Home Park Windsor. The judge is our own Millie Pentland who last judged the breed at Richmond in 2021, she also gives CCs in Keeshonds. This will be her 5th time of giving CCs in the breed.  The next show is East of England being held for the last time and it will be held on the Rutland Show Ground Oakham, the breed is on July 8th there are no CCs.

The next show with CCs is National Working & Pastoral Breeds held on the Three Counties Show ground Malvern. Our judge is Paul Conway giving CCs in the breed for the first time. He previously judged the breed’s Open Show in 2021 and gives CCs in Whippets and Affenpinschers. We are also holding our own Open Show in conjunction with NW & PBs the judge is Caroline Friend-Rees, she last judged the Breed at Working & Pastoral Breeds Association of Scotland in November 2022 without CCs.

The next All Breed Ch show is Leeds with the breed on 29th July, our judge is Jane Paradise giving CCs in the breed for the first time. She gives CCs in 6 Pastoral Breeds 8 Utility 7 Toy and 1 Working.

Then it is back down to the south west for Paignton, held at Clyst St Mary with the breed on the 4th August, I do not know the judge but they have announced that they will have benches which seemed a popular announcement. The next Ch show is also down south Bournemouth Ch show held on their own ground at Pikes Farm Nr Poole Dorset on 13th August, I do not know the judge at present, they had benches last year of course but these were a long way from the rings and the benching tents were only really used to get out of the searing heat, so I personally doubt they will have benches this year.

Then it is over the border into Wales for Welsh KC All Breed Ch show on the Welsh Showground Builth Wells. This is sometimes held indoors and sometimes outside on the main arena very much depending on the weather. The judge is Mrs Raye Parry giving CCs in the breed for the first time. She gives CCs in two other Pastoral Breeds and 19 Toy Breeds.  City of Birmingham is the next Ch show, there are no CCs and it will be held at Stoneleigh Park on August 31st, it used to be held in the old cattle sheds that were used when the Royal show was held there, but last year it was in very smart new halls. No further details at present. One of the southern shows is Richmond, held on 10th September at Loseley Park Nr Guilford Surrey. Our own Kirsty Irvine will be giving CCs in the breed for the first time subject to confirmation by the KC. The following week it is Darlington All Breed Ch show held on Ripon Racecourse on 17th September with breed specialist Shelley Franks giving CCs in the breed for the 14th time, she last judged the breed in 2018 at East of England Ch show the last time we had CCs there. Next on 22nd of October is our stand-alone Ch show at Shirland Village Hall Derbyshire with breed specialist Sue Sercombe holding centre stage and giving CCs for the fourth time, she last judged the breed at National Working and Pastoral Ch show in 2013 she also gives CCs in Siberian Huskies. Then it is north of the border for Working and Pastoral Breeds of Scotland on Nov 4th no CCs, it is held in The Lowland Hall on the Royal Highland Showground, Edinburgh. The last All Breed Ch show of the year is The Ladies Kennel Association (LKA), which this year will be held at Staffordshire County Showground Stafford and will be over 4days.We were originally scheduled for the Sunday but I do not know now which day we will be but our judge should be Darren Clarke giving CCs in the breed for the first time, he gives CCs in 3 working breeds and 17 other Pastoral Breeds.

Let us hope that as last year all these shows can go ahead.

Stay safe everyone,
