Breed Notes 10th November 2017 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

A busy weekend for the breed both in the UK and across the pond in the US.  Working & Pastoral Breeds of Association of Scotland is held on the first Saturday in November, at the Royal Highland Showground Ingliston Edinburgh. When I first came into the breed some 25yrs ago, the show had CCs for the breed and my first Buhund gained one of his at the show. Sadly as numbers in the breed dropped, so did number of shows awarding CCs and this was one of those to lose out. Being a Group show the breed has been scheduled every year since, without CCs. In 2012 there were no entries but in 2013 there was a good entry which covered all the top awards, with several exhibitors travelling a very long way. Unfortunately there was a lot of controversy at the show with the judging of the non CC breeds, with the show management team having to be called. The problem was they were saying that only dogs that had won their class could challenge for BOS. This meant that the puppy won BB without ever being challenged by the open bitch that had only been beaten by the BOB dog, as they were mixed sex classes, the puppy dog was not allowed to challenge the open dog either as he was beaten by the bitch puppy. The judges had the 5 cards but were not allowed to use them by the management. Feelings ran very high and one exhibitor in another breed put in a complaint with her money down. Since then although things have been sorted, it has been down to the Buhund owners who live in Scotland, particularly Margaret Garvie to fly the Buhund flag. Happily this year a few from South of the border made the trip north to join Margaret  for judge Nancy Evans, who is best known for her Amazon Dobermans, the breed in which she also gives CCs, she has also previously owned Buhunds. BOB & BB  Sue and Laura Cale and Millie Lambert’s Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Kiss And Tell  Di For Sturtmoor, she is by Nor /Int Ch Kimura Didrik x Ch Kimura Frieda, she is on a roll  having been BOB at Midland  Counties just 9 days earlier. RBB Heather & Alison Bradbury’s Arnscroft Spring Daisy Di, she is by Ch & Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor Ir J Ch (Sirius) x Kimura Tyra at Arnscroft this was her fist such award at only her third show. OS & BD Anne Smith’s Arnscroft Never Say Di by Ch /Am Ch Visions Dino of Trollheimen(Imp USA) x Arnscroft Di Sing On Ice.

Much further south in the Peterborough area, Sarah Stonton took her Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack and Trelowen Andrea (Loxy) to meet up with Sue Camm & Arnscroft Di Amond Pearl (Teya) and Lisa Strong with Loki Snowflake. They all enjoyed a walk together with a couple also enjoying a swim. This did mean a wash and brush up for Jack, Loxy and Teya who headed off the next day for Coventry (Foleshill ) Canine Association show, for breed specialist judge Jenny Shorer Wheeler (Kormandel). She had an entry of 9 which is very good for an open show. BOB was Teya with RBOB going to Jacqui & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Knytshall Angel Delight expertly handled by Alysha Blanchflower, who was also third in the Adult handling 17yrs to 25yrs, qualifying for the Coventry Adult Handling Final. I have to compliment Jenny on writing a detailed critique for all of the four breeds she judged within an hour of her arriving home.

The same weekend across the pond Amie McLaughlin showed G Ch Arnscroft Be A Sailors Son Di (Skipper) at the Central Point Oregon show which held several shows over 4 days days. Skipper gained 2 Group 4 places, Amie co owns him with Joy Arney Fowler and breeder Di Stirling. He is by Sirius x Ch Arnscroft Di Or Comply and is litter brother of Sarah Stonton’s Jack. Amie recently retired GCHP Jotunna Bella Binna CGC who she co owns Val Eberhardt & J Bradstreet, she had a stunning show career being the first Buhund in the US to go BIS and ended her career with 5 BISs.
