Breed Notes 12th March 2021 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

It had been hoped that Windsor Ch show would be the first show this year with CCs for the breed, but I am sure many of you will have seen that the Royal Windsor Horse Show has moved to the same days, and the horse show has preference. The Horse show does not take place on the same ground as the Dog show, but the area is used as the horse box park and of course it would also make traffic in the area very heavy, especially as it is around those dates that if all goes well, lockdown will be eased. We will have to wait and see what the Windsor committee decide.

Southern Counties is hoping to go ahead on June 4-6th at Newbury and Three Counties at Malvern 10-13th, neither of these shows have CCs for the breed and if they decide to restrict numbers, they may well decide not to schedule the breed, so again we will have to wait and see, something I think we have all become accustomed to doing.

We all hope that dog shows will be able to go ahead at some point this year both in the UK & Eire, but in the meantime, there are some wonderful people running on-line shows which are keeping everyone going. In the Eleri’s Valentine Ch show Addrienne Frost-Treadwell’s Ir Ch Trelowen Aviator at Frostisen(Maggit) was third in AV Open dog, he is by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola. Great result Addrienne, these online shows have huge entries and are very hard fought. The Pastoral judge was Tracey Douglas. The show had some fantastic rosettes and raised £450 for MIND; such a great cause well done everyone.

I received some very sad new from Celia Vines last week, that her Perry aka Ch Ailort Highlander at Parvodene JW ShCM had passed over the Rainbow Bridge, he had been suffering from kidney and prostrate problems. He was bred by Debbie Penniston- Fleming and born on 2nd May 2007, he was by Celia’s Ch Olpenden Malachy at Parvodene JW ShCM x Debbie’s Ch Fullani Farek At Ailort ShCM. Perry had a very successful show career winning 14Ccs & 17RCCs.He won his last CC when nine and half at Welks under the late Vic Salt. I used to refer to Perry as ‘Ever Green’ in my notes as right up to the beginning of Covid he went on being very successful at open shows. He won several BIS and BVIS at open shows and was only the second Buhund to be awarded the KC Veteran Warrant, this was only introduced in January 2019 as separate award for veteran dogs to encourage entries at general open shows and group open shows.25 points are needed with points being awarded for 1st -4th place. Perry actually gained 28points so a few points to spare. He gained points from Lichfield show under Mrs Irene Buchanan Green, Worcester & Malvern CS under Tony Allcock, Llynfi Valley show with judge Sally Duffin, then Colin Richardson judged at Cheltenham, Sutton Coldfied it was Lee Cox, at Bristol DCC show it was Russell Jones, at Tredegar Leana Lewis officiated, at Worcester it was Russell Mosedale and Cardiff E Webster, where Tim Huchings also awarded him BOB & PG1 he then went onto be RBIS. The final points were gained at Swansea show under Lee Cox. What a fantastic record and what a wonderful advert for the breed. I am sure if we had not covid Perry he would have gained even more points. So sorry Celia for the loss of such a fantastic well-mannered dog.

Stay safe everyone.
