NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Pastoral day at South Wales Kennel Kennel Assoc Ch Show was Friday, sadly for the first time there was only one Buhund entered, Millie Lambert’s Sturtmoor EezeeLuvva by x Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah JW ShCM x Ch Bernegarden’s Reve Enka Av Sturtmoor (Imp Nor). She has 2RCCs and was Top puppy last year, so was a worthy BOB. When I first started showing, the show was held in July at Crick near Chepstow at the Wales and West Show ground, which was the event centre at that time of the well-known show jumper David Broome. For a non-CC show it used to have a good entry. When the showground was redeveloped the show was moved to some fields in USK which had very good access from the M4. Unfortuately the ground was low lying and near a river, I judged there one year and part of the ring was flooded. We all know how unpredictable summer weather can be and in 2009 a few days before the show, it rained and rained so the showground was under water. The committee had to be commended in managing to move the show at the last minute to the Berkshire County show ground at Newbury where Southern Counties is held. It must have been a logistical nightmare, and something the committee was not going to risk happening again, so they asked permission of the KC to move the show to the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells. The showground hosts a number of events and the only free date they had, that did not clash with any other Ch show was in October. With a small numerical breed such as ours and with exhibitors spread all over the country, a show in the middle of Wales in October with the chance of bad weather for a non-CC breed, does not appeal to exhibitors unless they live near. Our judge on this occasion was Del Richards who is on our judges list, so it would have been nice if there had been more dogs to go over, but it happens. Years ago I went to a show and had only one Elkhound to go over and another with one Buhund.
The Irish Kennel Club held its two-day International show last weekend. Brenda & Tony Bethell set their alarm for 3 am to drive 100miles to the show, arriving at 6.45am even before the gates were unlocked but it did ensure a good place in the show to set up crates. The judge on the first day was Mr V O’Brien from Ireland, Green Star Dog, CACIB & BOB Kerry & Fritz’s Ch Trelowen Dison who is by Uk Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola. Res GSD & RCACIB Brenda & Tony’s Zodiac’s Featuring Fredrik At Taevas Of Minforst(Imp US)(Freddy)by Ch Hundehaven’s Captain Voyger x Am Ch Zodiac’s Gracious Gretchen. GSB &CACIB & RBOB Brenda & Tony’s Lux/Int Ch Arnscroft Glad Di Ola (Freya) also by Conar Tun x Ch Arncroft Kiss and Tell for Sturtmoor. RGSB &RCACIB Kerry & Fritz’s Ch Trelowen Anastasia by Conar Tun xTrelowen Kyoo. The judge on the Sunday was Mr Luis Catalan from Portugal. The dog winners were the same as the day before, there was a change round with the bitches though, Anastasia took the BGS CACIB and RBOB but Brenda and Tony were thrilled that their home bred Minforst Galadriel by Freddy x Freya who had not been shown for 4 months, remembered what she was meant to do to be a show dog and was RGSB & RCACIB gaining her first Irish Green Card, she also has a RCC.
Green Stars, I am sure you all realise are like our CCs only you need 7 of them to be an Ir Ch.
CACIB stands for ‘Certificats d’aptitude au Championnat de Beaute’; dog show title for breeds that do not have a working title as well. These are awarded at International shows. To become an International Champion the dog must be at least 15months old to gain a CACIB, then have four CACIBS confirmed by the FCI under at least three different judges in at least three different countries and there must be at least one year and one day between the first and last CACIB. Back in 2003 my multi Ch Fullani Flekkefjord was the first Int Ch in the breed, having been bred and living in the UK, gaining his CACIBS in Eire, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg, more recently Brenda and Tony’s Freya was the first bitch to gain the title.
