NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
As we all know Crufts went ahead as planned. I expect when the final attendance figures are in they will be down, which is only to be expected and not helped by the fact that Mars, pulled out their Royal Canin and James Wellbeloved stands just 48hrs before the show was due to start, which was reported in the media .The Thursday certainly started very quiet but picked up later in the day. Then in the evening Channel 4 and More 4 had transmissions from the show, and people realised that the show was very much on. Friday was much busier and on Saturday afternoon there was a 2hr wait for seats in the main arena. The area that was vacated by the 2 dog food stands was made into a rest area, with tables & chairs and an ice cream van, this proved very popular, as so often a big events there nowhere to sit down.
There were also live transmissions from the main arena on YouTube, with thousands from around the world watching the various activities.
Saturday was Pastoral Day we were first in the ring, our judge was Kerry Frost who has been in the breed for many many years, breeding and showing with the Frostisen affix and has had Crufts winners herself in the past. She last judged the breed at the club Ch show in October 2016.She found her DCC & BOB in Nancy Kent and Jacqui and Michael Cobb’s Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall (Jamie), he is by UK/Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidofcopper for Koromandel (Imp Fin)JW. Jamie is making Crufts his own, I gave him BP in 2018, last year under Celia Vines he gained his crown and was BOB, this year it was 7th CC he also has 10RCCs. He was handled by his breeder Jenny Shorer-Wheeler. RDCC winning his first RCC Neil Hood & Sophie Wildig’s Sturtmoor Eeza Geeza at Buhcafrey by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farah of Kormandel JW ShCM x Sturmoor’s Dream Maker at Gazenorth.
BCC again for the second year running Sue Sercombe’s Trelowen Dizzy Rascal, by Ir Ch Tokyn Durian x Trelowen Pink Pigeon, this CC was her third her first was at Windsor in 2018 under Mike Vines. She is shown by Sue’s daughter Jacqui, the family live in Northern Ireland so the trip was definitely worth while, and Jacqui told me that just for once it was a very calm crossing. RBCC & BP Millie Lambert’s homebred Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee continuing her winning ways, she is by Jamie x Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva. She was BP at LKA & Manchester and also has numerous open show wins.BV for the third year running Neil Hood’s Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us Rex ShCM by Ch /Ir Ch Arnscroft Kimura x Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Di-Nahs-Mite he has 8CCs & 6 RCCs.
Judging over it was time for our picnic at the benches, and as usually we had so much food we could have fed most of Hall!
Discover Dogs is always a very important part of Crufts, started in 1994 as a trial with just a few breeds, but it very quickly caught on. The idea being that every breed could be seen every day and also to educate people on what breed would suit them most. For a numerical small breed such as ours, it is a wonderful and very important way to get the breed better known. Lisa Strong does a fantasia job in setting up the breed booth, and as I said in last week’s notes, she makes sure we have pictures of doing various activities. I would like to thank all those gave up their time to represent the breed. I know it is very tiring for people and dogs, so it is fabulous that you help in this way. We now have a number of members who have found the breed through DD. We had a great deal of interest, with a number of people going home and asking to join the Norwegian Buhund forum on FB, so that they could learn more about the breed. Those helping were Lisa and husband Alex who very bravely helped as he has broken his foot. They had Loki Snowflake and Leggatts Dancing Queen at Dracuss (Eris) and Lillian Rumsey with ChArnscroft Di Nah May and the puppy Kata Syndattir Av Fjeldvidda .Tom and Penny Glibbery who originally found the breed at DD with Rikarlo Grant, and all the way from Holland club member Lies Hekius & Jurrien Vinckers, with Nl/Ek Ch med Hjartas Assar,Var Stolthet Tander Lif ,Var Stolthet Thore Lif and a six month old puppy Knappe Odyn. All the dutch dogs are black, so lovely to have them on the booth for a day, as we still have the comment ‘Oh did not know they came in black’. Eris is also black so at one point the blacks outnumbered the wheatens! Also giving up their time were Jonathan Martin with Wolfen Dances with Wolves and Aline Angus with Arnscroft Di To Be A Bosun and Arnscroft Di Cee Di Cee Di, and on the Sunday it was Jacqui Cobb with Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall and Sue Crocker with Leggatts Voulez Vous who is also black. I also did it with Rikarlo Gable who would turn his head away from people smelling of hand sanitizer, which as can imagine there were quite a lot, he was quite happy for them to stroke him just not his head !
