Breed Notes 14th July 2017 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

THE EAST of England Ch show is part of “Just Dogs Live” with a three day agility show, fly ball and a demonstration ring. This  has a full programme each day including the very impressive Essex Dog Display Team, which is the longest established display team going back 34yrs.The dogs taking part come in all shapes and sizes, some pedigree some rescue but all obviously enjoy showing off their skills.

Pastoral day was Saturday and I am happy to say not quite as hot as previous days in the South. We were benched in a rather small and dark cattle shed, there was though a wonderful cooling breeze going through which was great help in keeping the dogs cool. The rings still under Marquees had been moved slightly so the going was much better than previously years, there was also a larger area covered by each marquee giving more room for cages near the rings.

Our judge was our own Millie Lambert who has been in the breed for many years. She had her first two bitches from Michael Quinney in 1983 when she was ten and a half .She bred her first litter in 1984 and the second in 1986 which contained her first RCC /CC winner Yannista Barak, which was her affix back then. Unfortunately when the eye problems were found in the breed, her line was shown to be affected. She then had a couple of dogs in different breeds and learnt about grooming and show presentation. She went to the states in 2001 taking her dogs with her but no Buhunds, while there she went to the Buhund Speciality before they were given Ch status .She returned from the US in 2006 and shortly after handled Debbie Fleming’s Ailort Hidden Gem when Debbie broke her foot ,she then had Kimura’s Egon owned by Britt Halvorsen for a while he was being shown over here .Britt  offered her a puppy from her Kimura Frida, which became Ch Bernegarden’s Reve Enka av Sturtmoor ,so she was able to start a breeding line again. Her mother Marcia made Millie and her sister Amy part of the Sturtmoor affix at the ends of the 90’s. She last awarded CCs in the breed at City of Birmingham in 2014 and previous to that in 2010 also at E of E. This time  she found her BOB & DCC his 19th in Shirley and Alf Dobson Sue Cale & Nancy Evans Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor (Sirius)he also  has 7 RCCs,he was later shortlisted in the group under David Cavill. His first litter of puppies have now gone to their new homes and we look forward to seeing several of them in the ring later. BVIB Jacqui & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall ,she had the same award at Windsor the week before ,she is by Ch Knytshall Ferdig x Int/Ir Ch Trelowen Yn Tek to Benzara she has 6CCs &5 RCCs .There were no puppies as those that are being shown were bred by Millie .

East of England also hosted an Obreedience Heat which we had entered, when I went to the briefing the team had been scheduled first, to start at 10am, which would have been alright  except that the Breed started at 9am and Angel and Fizz were in both. I told the Obreedience organisers that we would get there as soon as possible, but it left us with no time to practice!  It was held in the demonstration ring so there was a tight time schedule  and they were waiting for us when we finally arrived .The other team members were Lisa Strong with Loki and myself with Kiki .The heel work pattern completed ,every team then did the set exercises .Loki Go To Bed .Angel Stop On  Command  .Kiki Retrieve and Fizz Scent . The winners were a lovely team of Bernese Mountain Dogs 2nd Smooth Collies 3rd Cavaliers and we were 4th .Once we all had time to breath several of us went shopping, as there are always many stands selling everything your canine partner might need. Then it was time to go back to the benches for our picnic and enjoy a lovely cake made by Jenny to celebrate Brenda’s birthday which had been earlier in the week.

I have just heard that Maddie and Ron Norman have had to say good bye to their lovely Oscar, he was born on 17th September 2000 making him 16yrs 9wks and 24day, which is a very good age. His show name was Trelowen Govyn of Marambu and he was by Knytshall Morsom x Ch Trelowen Stonty.

I finish by wishing our Chairman Di Stirling a speedy recovery; she tripped down some steps at home earlier this week, bruising both legs badly and damaging some ligaments, but I am glad to say she is already feeling much better.
