NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Saturday was Pastoral Day at Richmond Ch show, rain was in the forecast but in the end it was lovely and sunny until late in the afternoon. It is a true outside show held in a field in Loosely Park; the show layout is much the same as Windsor with the benching marquees round the outside. The many trade stands are between these and the in/out rings under marquees in the centre of the ground. The breed was second in the ring after 40 Bullmastiffs; both breeds were judged by Mr Dan Ericsson from Sweden, who is passed to judge all breeds under the FCI. He started breeding Scottish Terriers in 1972 and has bred over 100 Champions; he has also owned and bred Champions in Pekinese and Labradors. He has judged in over 40 countries and several World shows. He judged at Crufts in 2003 and is a member of our KC .It was a day for the Arnscroft Kennel of Di Stirling. You may remember that Kimura Viking(Imp Nor)(Eric), spent a few months in 2015/16 in the care of Sue Crocker on route to Australia, he was BPD at Crufts in 2016, flying out to his new home a few days later. He is full brother to Kirsty Irvine and Jenny Shorer –Wheeler’s Kimura’s Vera with Tapui .On the 16th January Rennedal’s Brynhild Skjoldmoy joined him and now there is great news from their owners Caroline Russell Catt and Roberta Crouch, that on the 19th August the two became the proud parents of 6 puppies, 3 girls and 3 boys. Hopefully this will be start of establishing the breed in Australia. Eric is now an Australian Ch and recently at the Royal Adelaide Show General Special Day, he was shortlisted in the last 8 in the Working Group.
Recently Bev Hall went to Newton Heath Rally show taking her Belgian Shepherd Ch Ailort Inspyre who is a very successful agility dog and has also won Beginners Obedience and her Buhund Ailort Just the Ticket (Jay) full brother to Margaret Garvie’s Ailort Just Jinks. Bev kindly sent me the following report “the show was outside, there were a few showers but it was mainly dry. Levels 1 & 2 were both in the afternoon so it was a bit stressful having 2 dogs in each class. I ended up having to go from the Level 2 ring with Jay straight into Level 1, which is why I made a mistake. There was a spiral in each class and I went the wrong way round, as it was the opposite way in level 2 but he still earned a qualifying score, and won the level two class.” Jay already has one qualifying score under his collar, so only needs one more to be able to have letters after his name .So lovely to have another Buhund taking part in what is a relatively new canine activity.
