Breed Notes 18th January 2019 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Manchester this year is the first of the new all breeds Ch shows giving CCs to all breeds that have them, for a 3 yr trial period. We last had classes there with CCs in 2003, in those days the show was at the GMex in the centre of Manchester and there was no room for breeds without CCs. The building was originally Manchester’s Central Railway Station and was the Northern terminus from St Pancras, becoming a Grade 11 listed building  in 1963.Parking was very difficult, you had to be there very early to be able to use the underground car park which was a maze of tunnels, originally  used for storage and sidings for trains, otherwise you had to use local car parks .When the show moved to Stafford it had more space but it was not till 2016 that we had classes back. In 2003 BOB was Kirsty Irvine then Mayers homebred Ch Tapui Tane JW, who was DCC & BOB under Claire Coxall. Two years earlier in 2001 he had made breed history there by winning the DCC & BOB under Michael Quinney when only just 6 months old, he was also 4th in the adult group under Mr Vuorinen from Finland and was the overall winner of the puppy stakes under Claire Coxall, so qualifying for the pup of the year. He also had a very successful show career while staying with the Kimura Kennel in Norway becoming not only a Norwegian Ch but also a Swedish Ch; he is in the pedigree of Kirsty’s import Kimura Vera with Tapui.

This year our judge was Marion Sargent, she gives CCs in 19 breeds across 5 groups, this was the fourth occasion she has judged the breed in the last 10 years, the last time was in 2015 at City of Birmingham. We were second in the ring going in about 11.30am. RBCC her 7th & BV Jacqui & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall RL1Ex by Ch Knytshall Ferdig x Int/Ir Ch Trelowen Yn Tek to Benzara she also has 7 CCs. Happily, there were also puppies, coming all the way from Southern Ireland, this time they made it unlike LKA when the high winds caused the ferry sailings to be cancelled. BDP Kerry & Fritz Frost Addrienne Frost-Treadwell and Jacqui Walmsley’s Fabrajas Your Obedient Servant Mr Burr (Imp USA) he is by Can Ch Kyon’s Langveis-Reisende x GCHB Trollheimen’s Pink Tourmaline. As so often happens with winter shows you never really know what the weather will be like, having had a relatively warm few weeks with signs of an early spring, the weather changed overnight and those with an early start woke up to icy conditions and heavy snow flurries on the M6, which happily did not settle and soon died out but it remained cold all day.
