NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
I was told that I forgot to tell you details of where the Buhund Bumbles will be advertised. They will be on the forum and in the newsletter that is being sent out monthly by Anne our Chairman. So if you are planning one please let her know and put it on the forum. Lisa has posted the next one is the Cambridgeshire Bumble on Sunday 24th Feb 11am at Ferry Meadows Peterborough. The car park is free and there are hard paths for the humans while the canines can enjoy the lovely grassy fields.
The National Working and Pastoral Breeds open show was held at Ryton on Dunsmore on the 16th February, we were first in the ring at 9am so it was a very early start some not quite so for others. There was an entry of 8 which was more than for Border Collies! Our judge was our own Di Butler who provided the most wonderful rosettes. She found her BOB in Jenny Shorer-Wheelers Ch Maidofcopper for Kormandel (Piika). RBOB & BD Nancy Kent, Jacqui & Michael Cobb’s Kormandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall (Jamie).BP Lisa Strong’s Leggatts Dancing Queen (Eris). This was only her second show and first time in Buhund classes. Isaac Shorer-Wheeler won the Junior Handling 6-11 under Louise Bermingham with his and his mother Jenny’s Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel winning £15. My & daughter Debbie’s Ch/Bel Ch Tonylynn’s Charles Lafitte (Fizz) was shortlisted in a very large Veteran Stakes. As part of the KC judges competency framework the KC have asked Breed Clubs to sponsor two open shows a year. The Buhund club supported this show so the BOB won£10 and the BP £5. The next one we will be supporting is the Nordic in November.
Much further west across the Irish sea Brenda Bethell and Tony Bethell took their homebred Minforst Galadreil(Ella)for some more show practise, because as Brenda said previously there are no Ringcraft classes in Eire, so this is the way Ella has her training, quite successfully it would seem. This time the show was Sullivans Quay Canine Club all breed open show, held at Cork Mart, Fermoy, Co Cork. The judge was Miss Karen Murphy who awarded Ella 1st in AV open & G4, then under Ms Tish O’Flaherty much to Brenda’s delight she was 2nd in a very large class of AV Bred by Exhibitor. They also took their Ir Ch Zodiac’s Featuring Fredrik At Taevas Of Minforst(Imp US)and he was 4th in AV Foreign Breed. Well done.
Last week I talked about Westminster, what I did not say was that most of the dogs are handled by professionals, in fact they have classes at most shows for owner handlers and BOB for them , although not at Westminster and the entry fee for Westminster after you have had the invitation is $100 or £77.54 and with the Groups not starting till 8pm ,if you think there is a chance of BOB then a hotel room has to be booked well in advance, so an expensive hobby!
Two show schedules with breed classes without CCs have just become available, Southern Counties on June 1st has scheduled the breed without CCs for many years and is always known for having judges from abroad. It has a very good classification of classes and the judge is Marja Talvitie from Finland. The other show is East Of England on July 5th which is a Friday, the judge is Toni Jackson who gives CCs in 9 Breeds and is known for her very successful kennel of Finnish Lapphunds. This is first time without CCs here as they have been moved to Leeds. We were not sure if they would keep the breed on, but they have and with a very good classification, we need shows without CCs to schedule the breed otherwise the show scene would be rather sparse, so please support them if you can.
