Breed Notes 22nd July 2022 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Every group has its own Ch show, the Working and Pastoral Group show was held on Saturday 16th July on the Three Counties Showground Malvern, it is a very attractive showground with the Malvern Hills as a back drop .The showground covers 90acres and is owned by the Three Counties Agricultural Society, the first show of the Agricultural Society was held on the ground in 1958 and was attended by Queen Elisabeth the Queen Mother ,although  the Society its self goes back to  1797.The site now hosts various  events over the year and is a popular venue for  dog  shows.

Back in 2019 before the Pandemic, we held out open show in conjunction with NW&PBS and it was very hot. Last year it was again very hot and again this year, but luckily on the last two occasions we were first in the ring. This year we were benched in the Severn Hall, which was quite cool, there were also rings set up in there should we decide to use them, as the show had said if the judge and exhibitors decided it was too hot outside the dogs could be shown inside. The fact that we were first in at 9am meant that the temperature was fine for showing outside. Many exhibitors who did not live relatively local stayed overnight, but we decided to leave at silly o’clock. On the plus side we had no traffic problems, and it was cool enough that we did not need the air con, not the same on the way how when it worked flat out.
Our judge was Tim Ball awarding CCs in the breed for the first time, he awards CCs across all the groups. He had a nice entry with several puppies who were just six months, it was the first time with puppies for some months which was great to see, and there was also a special beginner entry for the first time since last year.

The two top placings were the same as at East of England the week before although there were no CCs there. BOB and BCC her 7th Maddy Norman’s Ch Arnscroft Delilah At Veekay (Lottie) she is by Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor (Sirius) x Ch Arnscroft Di Or Comply, she also 10RCCs.Winning her second RBCC was Michael Patrick and Leigh Ashman’s Tapui Starla (Freya), she by Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Ch Kimura’s Vera At Tapui (Imp Nor). DCC who is definitely on a roll winning his 11th CC and third this year was Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack RL1ExL2ex he also has 9RCCs and is Lottie’s elder brother. RDCC his first he also has a CC, Jenny Shorer-Wheeler’s Koromandel Tusen Takk(ai)(Muchly). He is by Multi Ch Trollheimen JR Made For Cascilius x Sturtmoor’s Ffacination with Koromandel(Fable). BP at her first show Sue Cocker’s Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle), she is by Sturtmoor Floki x Leggatts Voulez Vous. Sadly, Sue could not come to the show as two days earlier she had tested positive for Covid for the first time, but as Noodle lives with her son Sam he was able to bring her. She was shown in the class by Jenny and in the challenge and the group by Millie Lambert -Dovey. It says a lot for Noodle’s socialisation and temperament that at her fist show she could still be happily showing well in the group after a long day and with different handlers. BVIB Jenny’s Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel JW (Imp Fin) (Pikka)she has 11CCs & 12RCCs and is by Nor Ch Gnipagrottans Qu x Fin Ch /Nor Ch Cipacan Milla Magia, she was shortlisted in the Veteran Group under Lynne Salt and was third in the Good Citizen Stakes under Jeff Luscott winning money. Special Beginners was Victoria Graholska at her first show with her six-month-old puppy Leggatts Boogie Shoes who is Noodle’s litter sister and is by Victoria’s dog Floki.

Thanks, have to go to Tim Ball for posting a very detailed critique the following day.

It was nice to be in the ring early when it was relatively cool but of course it did make it a long day for those waiting for groups. The show did their best for the dogs in the groups, there are trees along one side the BIS ring, and massive golfing umbrellas had been added to one of the other sides where the sun was coming from.

Thanks go to our dogs for showing the groups live and Sam Crocker for showing the finals of the Veteran and Puppy group which had been pre judged.

The following day Evesham and District Canine Society Premier Open show was held on the same show ground. Marie and Adam Camm’s Kligenthal Almuric(Bergen) was BOB and Group 4 under Terrie Cousins-Brown (Dorianblue ).Many congratulations.

Obviously, I have to send in these notes before the extreme weather effects some places, although we are all mostly under an Amber warning at the moment, so I hope you and your animals whatever they are manage to find ways of coping.

Many years ago, we were sent a Thermometer on a piece of card by British Gas and the Mayor of London, so we could check temperatures in the house, it is relatively accurate but now it keeps saying, ‘Too warm unless you are feeling cold turn your heating down and save money’ I wish!

Stay safe everyone.
