NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
I have said many times how important Buhund Bumbles are as a way of Buhund owners getting to know one another by meeting up and socialising with other owners, and for prospective owners to get to know the breed. The most recent Bu Bumble was organised by Sue Crocker for the South West and Wales area and took place on Saturday the 12th November. Here Lucy Beatrice Gilbert tells of her first Bumble as she has a nearly 9month old Buhund puppy. ‘As a new and first-time Buhund owner, it was a privilege to attend my first ‘Bu Bumble’ in the beautiful setting of Shearwater, Wiltshire. It was a successful turn out, with 9 Buhunds in attendance plus one ‘honorary Bu’ a small Heinz 57. Whilst it was mid-November, we were incredibly lucky with the weather as we were met with mild temperatures and clear skies. There were plenty of puddles and rivers for the pups to play in, so muddy paws were a plenty. After walking around Shearwater Lake and stopping for a photo opportunity in front of a gorgeous, picturesque backdrop, Bu’s and owners went to the nearby café for lunch, warm drinks, and cake. It was wonderful to see Buhunds young and old in their element, checking in with owners and then dashing off for a woodland exploration. I look forward to the next meet-up in January, and hopefully see some of you at LKA in December’ Thank you Lucy, sounds as if you all had a great time. Although not living in the area Lisa and Alex Strong were having a weekend away to celebrate their Wedding Anniversary, so joined the Bumble with Eris and Loki, it was great that Mary and David Dosson with Teddy could also join, as Mary is still recovering from the nasty accident she had earlier in the year. Katerina Kivell went along with her two children and Luna, also joining them was Dan and Lucy Beatrice Gilbert with Zuki and Penny who came along to keep an eye on young Zuki, Kim Ainsworth with Ellie and George and Jo with another Loki, also enjoyed the Bumble, and of course Sue Crocker who organised it all was there with Noor and Tissy. It was nice that there was a good representation of Black Buhunds, all of which were Noor’s daughters but not from the same litter, Eris and Tissy are litter sisters, then there was puppy Zuki born this year. One dog that was missing on the Bumble was Sue Crocker’s Noodle aka Leggatts Jive Talkin, as she was at the twelfth Dorset Top Dog competition with handler Jasmine Freeborn flying the Buhund Flag, along with Jacqui Walmsley and Birdie aka as Frostisen Blakk Zeta, so again it was lovely to have a Wheaten and Black representing the breed. The event was organised by Poole Canine Club and Haworthy Social Club and sponsored by the Bournemouth Canine Association. For dogs and owners living in the BH postcode area also known as the Bournemouth postcode area and the DT postcode area, which is also known as the Dorchester postcode area, to qualify the dog must have won a CC, RCC or BPIB or Group 1-4 at a Ch show or BIS RBIS BPIS Group 1-4 or 3 BOBs or 3BPIB at an open show. For dogs and owners living outside of the BH & DT areas the same awards must be won but the awards must be gained either at Dorset County Canine Society Show, Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Society Dog show, Poole Canine Club show or Bournemouth Ch show and the awards must be gained between 1st Nov 2021 and 31st October 2022.The hotel Rembrandt was the venue and there were three categories Top Puppy ,Top Veteran and Top Dog all judged by the Bill Brown -Cole who is well known Terrier man. The dogs were judged on a head-to-head system, Noodle won the first round but was knocked out in the second, but it was great to have had two Buhunds qualified. Judging over there was lovely carvery lunch and everyone had a glittery rosette.
The following weekend Sarah Stonton with Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack RL1Ex L3ex travelled to Finmere in Buckinghamshire, for a Level 4 scent trial which they won only missing one of the 8 hides, they now only need 2 points to go into Level 5, many congratulations.
