Breed Notes 30th March 2018 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUND

Saturday March 24th saw Buhund owners and their friends make their way to Shirland Village Hall Alfreton for the club open show and AGM. The journey proved rather taxing for some members including our chairman Anne & Jenny Shorer –Wheeler, who found the M1 shut southbound where they needed to exit, with a long tail back after a multi vehicle crash, it was shut for hours, opening just in time for the journey home for those of us who needed to go southbound.

It was lovely to see so many members, there were also several who we had meet at Discover Dogs and are hoping to have a puppy later this year. Later that evening one of them posted on the forum. “I just wanted to thank everyone for how incredibly welcome we were both made to feel today. We had a wonderful time and just can’t believe how friendly and helpful everyone was. Absolutely can’t wait till we have a Buhund of our own.” I think that shows how important it is to attend Discover Dogs and that the day was a great success.

Show manager Jacqui Walmsley had arrived early having left home at silly o’clock, to get everything in order as she was expecting, correctly as it turned out, a visit from the KC Field Officer. For anyone who does not know these are people from the KC who come to make sure the show is being run properly, they cover everything usually starting with ring size, but even look at the spectator dog book. All shows whether breed, agility or obedience have inspections and the officers do have the power to shut a show down, if they think it is unsafe to continue. We had an inspection as we had a new show secretary. Jacqui of course is very experienced and everything was in order.

Our judge was Robin Newhouse known for his kennel of Annecy Samoyeds, he gives CCs in 19 Pastoral 3 Utility & 9 Working Breeds; he also judges the Pastoral group & BIS at Championship level. He found his BIS in Anne Smith’s Arnscroft Never Say Di, he is on a roll having gained his crown at Crufts. The show over there was a great picnic, Jenny had made beautifully decorated cake to celebrate Sarah’s —birthday. Then there was the presentation of the points Trophies for the past year, these are all listed in the lovely new Edition of Bu News produced by our chairman and webmaster Anne. If you are a club member and have not received a copy please let Jacqui Walmsley know.

This was followed by the AGM. Again if you are a member you will have received the Agenda accompanied by the Chairman, Secretary and Heath Co-ordinator reports. Most of you know we had to have a SGM which took place on 15th Oct  2017 , at this meeting a temporary committee was elected which had to be confirmed  at the AGM, with no other nominations your committee  is now Anne  Smith (Chairman) Jacqui  Walmsley  (Secretary)Marc Smith (Treasurer ).Committee members  Jacqui  Cobb, Sue Crocker, Debbie Deuchar, Margaret  Deuchar, Kirsty  Irvine(nee Gillies) Nancy Kent, Chris Maynard, Jenny Shorer –Wheeler. I will stay in the post of Health Co-ordinator, Sue Crocker will stay as Recue Secretary and from January 2019 till Dec 2021 Jenny will be Breed Council Liason. Lorraine Bolton will take the post of Breed Education Co-ordinator.

There were 4 proposals all of which were passed. The DNA test for Ataxia will be added to our code of ethics. Any member breaching the code of ethics will not be eligible to serve on the club committee, the length of time for this will depend on the severity of the breach.

I finish with best wishes for a speedy recovery to our Patron Shirley Dobson, she and her husband Alf were made Patrons at last year’s AGM. They had both planned to attend the show and AGM, but Shirley was taken ill a couple of days earlier, so Alf came for the show and joined in the picnic and the presentation of the Points Trophies as Ch /Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor who he co owns with Shirley and Sue Cale was Top Buhund  2017.
