Breed Notes 6th December 2019 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Over in Eire I am sure Brenda and Tony Bethell had their spirits lifted, when in messenger they received notifications that their home bred  Ir Ch Minforst Galadreil  and their Cirneco Dell’Etna, Cyrenensis Lucia Franca (Imp Italy ), had both  qualified for the Navan Best of  the Best Supermatch on Saturday 25th  January, at the IKC National  Show Centre Dublin. Good luck we look forward to hearing all about it.

Back in the UK on the last day of November, Millie Lambert took her Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee (Sheira) to Treharris & District Canine Society  Christmas Limited  show, held in Tredegar Leisure Centre. Sheira is just over 7months and has had a fantastic start to her showing career which she continued here, with another BOB & G3 BP & Puppy G2 under Colin Richardson. Then under Sarah Richardson she won the AV Bitch puppy stakes winning money! Millie said it was a lovely but rather cold day.

At the end of the year ‘Our Dogs’ will announce who is Top Buhund,Top Puppy, Top Brood Bitch, Top Stud Dog and Top Breeder for the year, these have been regularly updated throughout the year, and are calculated from CC shows plus group placings for the BOB & Puppy Groups. At the club AGM there will also be these awards but also many many more, these will also take in non CC Ch shows and the club open show (this is the only open show from which points may be gained) but group placings are not counted. There are also awards for Buhunds that have gained the most points in canine activities and the Adoram Lucy Trophy for the most points gained in AV classes at open and Ch shows. These last two trophies must be claimed for, so please to go to the club website for claim forms and to see how they are worked out .With only one more show for the breed in 2019, I thought I would have a look at how things have worked out so far year, on this occasion I have just looked at CCs shows. I was very pleased to see the CCs BP and BV awards have been spread around, which in my opinion is great for the breed, of course not all the dogs and bitches were entered at every show, but no Buhund has won every time out, so the awards have been hard fought. In dogs 5 have won CCs, Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack won 4, 3 with BOB. Nancy Kent and Jacqui and Michael Cobb’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall(Jamie) won 3 all with BOB, he gained his title at Crufts he was also BIS at the  Club Ch show. Neil Hood and Julian Collins Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us Rex Sh.CM (Dino) also won 3, 2 with BOB. Jenny and Isaac Shorer -Wheeler and Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah Of Koromandel JW Sh.CM won 1 with BOB and my and daughter Debbie’s Rikarlo Gable (Time) also won 1. In the bitches 7 have won CCs Margaret Garvie’s Rhialis Psyche Sh.CM won 5, one with BOB. Maddy Norman, Gail Hussey and Lynn Isaac’s Ch Arnscroft Delilah At Veekay (Lottie) won 2 one with BOB and gained her crown at Bath. Kirsty Irvine and Callum Gillies Kimura’s Vera With Tapui (Imp Nor)(Betty)won a  1 with BOB .Sue  Sercombe’s Trelowen Dizzy Rascal and Ch & Ir Ch Tokyn Sequoia(she gained her crown at Richmond ), Margaret Garvie’s Rhialis Lucie and Millie Lambert and Mae Owens Ch Bernegarden’s Reve Enka Av Sturtmoor (Imp Nor) (Foxy)have all  won 1. There have been 6 puppies with BP awards. Time won 5,Sue Sercombe’s Trelowen Kristopher won 2 including BPIS the club Ch show. Kerry & Fritz Frost & Karin Klouman’s  Dronningen Av Frostisen(Ma’am), Fritz Frost Fabrajs Your Obedient Servant Mr Burr, Sue Crocker  Leggatts Voulez Vous and Joanna Michalowska’s Trelowen Noel all won 1. 4 Best Veteran Awards went to Jacqui and Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Trelowen Veryan To Knytshall RL1.3 for Dino, who also made breed history by gaining the first Veteran Warrant in the breed with points gained from open shows.2 for Sequoia and 1 each for  Mo & Foxy. All except Veryan won at least one CC during the  year, but she was BVIS & won the RBCC at the club show .Of  course with the puppy and veteran awards it also depends on the age of the Buhund.  Veryan is the oldest veteran being 10yrs old, showing how well the breed goes into old age. Lisa and Alex Strong’s Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus is Top Special Beginner, she has now won out having a RCC. It is often said that the dog usually goes BOB and certainly it was true here with only 3 bitches winning BOB so far this year. Next time I will look at the RCC winners.
