Breed Notes 8th February 2019 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Many of you will know that there were 3 litters born quite close together in the second half of last year. The first puppy to make an appearance in the ring last weekend at Isle of Ely Canine Society Premier Show, at just 6 months was Lisa Strong’s Leggatts Dancing Queen or Eris to her friends, bred by Sue Crocker she is Lisa’s first show dog. Lisa has been in our Obreedience team for some time with Loki who is unregistered (he is on the KC activity Register, so can compete in everything except showing). This was therefore the first time in the show ring for both of them and they were a very credible 3rd in AVNSC puppy and 2nd in AVNSC Junior so very well done.

Our dogs have announced the Top Stud Dog, Top Brood Bitch and Top Breeder for last year. Di Stirling is again Top Breeder and Arnscroft Di Sing On Ice is Top Brood Bitch. For the fifth year running Uk/Am Ch Visions of Trollheimen (Caspar) is Top Stud Dog holds the top spot, this is an amazing result as he was only mated four times. He came to the UK in 2012 going to Debbie Penniston Fleming, originally to be shown and help the gene pool. He immediately made his mark by winning his first CC and going BOB at SKC not long after his arrival. He has been relatively lightly shown, as Debbie as well as being in the police also has a small farm on the outskirts of Glasgow. In 2012 Casper won the pastoral group at Driffield, at that time he was still owned by Brenda & Randy Solomon in America who followed his show career intently and were thrilled when he won his first BOB at Crufts in 2013, in July he was BOB at National Working and Pastoral Breeds Ch show. Later that year Brenda & Randy decided Caspar should apply for UK citizenship and from then on has been owned by Debbie and her friend Pat Williams, a long-time supporter of the breed, he was BOB at Crufts for the two following years. He is now retired from the ring but is Debbie’s constant companion on the farm and has proved himself to be a fantastic sheep dog. Sadly, Brenda Soloman died suddenly a few years ago but her husband still follows the successes of Casper’s children and now his grandchildren, one of whom is a Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack and another on 2CCs is Jack’s younger sister Arnscroft Delilah At Veekay. Mated to Di Stirling’s Arnscroft Di Sing on Ice, he produced Ch & Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor Ir J Ch owned  by Shirley and Alf Dobson he is a past Buhund of the Year and was BOB at  Crufts 2017, his litter brother Jenny Shorer – Wheeler’s & Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah Of Koromandel JW also has had an show illustrious show career, in 2013 he was Pastoral puppy G1 & PG1 at Southern Counties and not only gained his JW but also made the Grand Final at  Crufts, and has be in the final of the Champion stakes .Their  litter  sister  Lillian & Michael Rumsey’s Ch Arncroft Di  Nah May has also had  a successful show career .From a more recent litter of the same breeding Anne Smith’s Ch Arnscroft Never Say Di was BOB at Crufts last year and was also top Buhund for 2018. Caspar was also mated to Margaret Garvie’s Ch Ailort Just Jinks and produced Ch Rhialis Psyche Ch Rhialis Apollo & Rhialis Lucina who has 1CC, with wins from these three dogs  Margaret was Top Breeder in 2016. Together his  progeny have won over  60 CCs never mind RCCs and not including the grand children, so I think you could say he is a worthy Stud  Dog.
