Many thanks to both Darlington Committee for offering me the chance to judge this breed that is so special to me. Thanks to my two stewards and also to the exhibitors who bought their dogs under me on what was Friday 13th! It was nice to have an even split of wheatens and blacks and I have to hand it to the breeders, the dogs under me today were so much better quality and close to the standard than 5 years ago. I came away feeling that the breed was in a far better place. PD 1 Dosson/Dosson Leggatts Part Time Lover A 10 month old wheaten that was lacking in coat. Loose in pastern but a typical issue with this breed, needs road work to strengthen. A bit close behind but covered the ground well. A nice overall shape, so pleasing on the eye, well muscled, good head shape, dark eye mouth and dentitiion. Best Puppy JD 1 Corin/Camm Mazads Nom De Plume This young dog was the correct shape, with a short back giving him the overall proportions that makes him easy on the eye. Tight well set tail. Really good head shape with correct proportions. Well muscled, good depth of brisket, good shoulder placement. Moved well in the Challenge RCC. OD 4(1) 1 Shorer-Wheeler Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk I can understand why this 3 year old dog has been placed well in several Group finals. He has a classic shape, everything in proportion and exactly as the Standard asks. He was definitely the best mover of the day, covering the ground well and not close rear, or front. The handler gets the most out of him. Beautiful head shape, ears correct, lovely dark eye, well muscled, correct depth of brisket, good shoulder placement, tight feet. Good tail set. I gave him Dog CC and BOB, if the entry had been bigger this may not have been the case as however beautiful he is, as far as both the standard and my own personal feelings, he is too big. I am sure however that he was the best representative for the big ring on this occasion. 2 Dosson/Dosson Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn What I would term the older style Buhund, a nice looking dog in profile with a good head, nice tight tail and tail set. Good tight feet. Well muscled, I liked him , but, his movement let him down both in this class and in the challenge for RCC. VB 1 Norman Ch Arnscroft Delilah at Veekay At 7 this bitch was well made and muscled. Good strong head with lovely dark eye. Tight feet, with good tail set. Unfortunately she has a downward slope of the back which totally spoils her outline. Obviously something that is age related as I know that she had a classic outline as a youngster. Best Veteran JB 1 Strong/Strong Draccus I Have A Dream Before I judged I had a dream too, and this girl was it. From the moment she entered the ring I fell in love. Shiny black, perfect overall shape, as near to the standard as you will get. Height, tick, head tick, coat tick, Body tick, tail tick. She had a classic head, lovely eye, ear placement. Well muscled, good depth of brisket, good shoulder placement. Tail tight and well set. A youthful bundle of fun. She is a classic Buhund. A bit flighty on the move, but, that is down to handling. She can move well. Please go to ringcraft or do something to make her settle and move on a loose lead, this is a handler issue rather than the dog. Bitch CC LB (1) 1 Rees/Guillod/Guillod Draccus Obsidian at Bucamereru Black bitch with a good outline, rather portly, but, she is in whelp. Lovely head and soft expression. She had good dentition, moved her ears which were well placed. Well muscled, tight paws good tail and set, moved freely, pushed for RCC. OB (3) 1st: Strong/Strong Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen at Draccus Black just getting brown shades, which the blacks do with age. A worthy Champion. Lovely shape that draws the eye to her in the line up. Tight tail well set on. Good size, all in good proportion. Well muscled, short back. Best mover in the class. RCC 2 Shorer-Wheeler Sturtmoors Ffascination with Koromandel Slightly longer in back, which takes so much away from the classic shape that I like so much. Her head was finer than most today, but, she had good ear placement, dentition, dark eye. Well toned and showed well. Movement was not so good as she is closer behind on the move. Really enjoyed judging your breed today. They have improved so much in the last 5 years since I judged previously. Most are back to what the standard describes. All were well toned and muscled, half had tight feet, all had lovely curled tails, set centrally over the back. Not a sickle tail in sight. Lovely to have 50/50 wheaten to black. The height issues which produced lack of proportion have gone too. Congratulations.
