CRITIQUES:
Norwegian Buhunds
A big thank you to the exhibitors for making my day so enjoyable. Also thanks to my 2 stewards who kept everything moving well.
I have not judged Buhunds for a while so it was exciting to see the new dogs that are currently in the show ring. There is still a variety of sizes, varying from very small bones to rather large frames both of which spoil the overall balance of the dog. Movement was disappointing in some classes front pinning & crossover in front was occurring too often. I know it is difficult to get out walking in the winter months but road exercise will definitely improve some slack muscles. Also, please keep an eye on toe nails as long nails can spoil what should be a small, oval in shape, toes tightly closed appearance.
Having said all that my top winners were beautiful exhibits & it is exciting for the breed to have some fresh bloodlines continuing to come into the country. Well done breeders.
MPD (1) 1 Crouch’s Kimura’s Viking, 8 months old youngster, beautiful clear wheaten colour with correct coat texture. He had the correct proportions for his age, not too leggy, with a good Spitz head & expression. Lovely neck & shoulders, level topline when moving & standing. Movement a bit erratic at the moment but he has plenty of time to mature & settle. PD (1) 1 K Viking. JD (0). PGD (2) 1 Lambert’s Sturtmoor Destiny’s Day, jet black colour, loved this 2 year old who is a slow to mature but definitely has a promising future. True Spitz head & expression, good outline, with correct neat feet, tail & set, he was one of the better movers today; 2 Cook’s Arnscroft Di Ablo, wheaten who is longer on the leg than the winner, which lost the balance that I was looking for today. I liked his head giving the true Spitz expression, he has good shoulders, level topline & correct tail & set. Feet not as neat as the winners. LD (3) 1 Coe’s Trelowen Big Daddy, compact wheaten male, loved his outline when standing & kept a level topline when moving around the ring. Correct head, eye colour & mobile ears, good shoulders & strong firm body, tail & set correct. His coat was correct texture & in good condition; 2 Cobb & Kent’s Knytshall Diamond Ted, larger framed than winner & did not give such a balanced picture, loved his dark eye & Spitz expression, good neck & shoulders, tail & set correct, coat starting to moult. Toe nails need to be tidied to give the feet the correct oval shape & toes tightly closed view; 3 Deuchar’s Trelowen Ancorya. OD (1) 1 Dobson, Cale & Evans’ Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor, what a stunning male, he has such ring presence & his movement is a dream to watch. He is what I call the full package, beautiful outline so balanced, free from exaggeration. He has the correct Spitz head, shoulder placement, level topline, good stifles, lovely neat feet & tail & set. Clear wheaten coat in good condition & texture. Was pleased to give him the CC & BOB. VD (3) A lovely trio of veterans, the first 2 are 8½ years & my third place was 15 years old – well done a credit to the owners for keeping them so active. 1 Vines’ Ch Ailort Highlander at Parvodene, what an excellent veteran, so toned for an 8½ year old. Moved with strong strides keeping a level topline while going around the ring. His dark eyes give the correct expression, true Spitz head, lovely neck & shoulder, firm strong body & well angulated stifles providing the rear action strides. Correct coat texture & condition. Was pleased to give him RCC; 2 Deuchar’s Ch/Bel Tonylynn’s Charles Lafitte, another 8½ year old, clear wheaten with good head, expression, balanced outline & strong movement. Coat starting to blow & toe nails need trimming to show the oval shape of the feet; 3 Norman’s Trelowen Govyn of Marambu. GCD (3) 1 Ch A Highlander at Parvodene; 2 Shorer-Wheeler, Wheeler & Gillies’ Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel, beautiful clear wheaten, well balanced when standing with correct head, expression & mobile ears, lovely neck & shoulders, level topline & well muscled. He had a very young 5 year handler who did a very good job while in the stance but when moving I just needed to see more movement to include the good rear drive; 3 Norman’s Trelowen Govyn of Marambu.
MPB (1) 1 Gillies & Shorer-Wheeler’s Kimura’s Vera with Tapui, beautiful 8 months old baby, just loved her balanced outline for one so young. Clear wheaten coat in excellent condition & texture, correct Spitz head with dark eye & mobile ears, good shoulders & a level topline, when asked to move she covered the ground well, a promising baby. PB (1) 1 Shorer-Wheeler & Bolton’s Maidofcopper for Koromandel, my notes say wow, what a stunning youngster of just 10 months old. With style & ring presence she has all the requirements to reach the top drawer! Loved her outline, so balanced, super head & expression, lovely neck & shoulders, good firm body, correct tail & set, lovely neat feet. In the challenge just needed to see a stronger front action but that will come with maturity. Pleased to award her the RCC. JB (0). PGB (2) 1 Smith & Deuchar’s Kimura Tyra at Arnscroft, wheaten bitch, larger framed than some but she has a very good Spitz head, eye & ear carriage, good neck & shoulder, strong body with a level topline when moving, correct tail & set. Not so strong in front movement today; 2 Butterworth’s Rikarlo Henrietta, shaded/w, much smaller frame than the winner & not such a feminine head, her eye was a little light so not giving the required expression. Having said that she has a very good toned body, correct neck & shoulders, neat oval feet & her coat was the correct texture & in good condition. LB (4,1) 1 Glaholm’s Sturtmoor’s Dream Maker at Gazenorth, another clear wheaten, a good solid bitch who has a tendency to let her tail slip giving the appearance of a longer back. When in the alert mode she looked balanced, liked her head & Spitz expression with a lovely dark eye. Good texture & condition of coat; 2 Stonton’s Trelowen Andrea, smaller framed bitch than the winner, but is well balanced, lovely feminine head & good eye colour & mobile ears. Neck & shoulders good, well toned with correct tail & set, lovely neat feet. Moved well; 3 Rumsey’s Arnscroft Di Nah May. OB (5,2) 1 Lambert’s Ch Bernegarden’s Reve Enka av Sturtmoor, she is the complete picture of how a feminine bitch should look, well balanced medium sized, free from exaggeration & capable of arduous work, she is beautiful. Just loved her Spitz head & appealing eyes, lovely neck & well placed shoulders, compact & toned body, good tail & set & correct bend of stifles with neat feet. She covered the ground effortlessly, a worthy champion. CC; 2 Cale, Pentland & Norman’s Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Kiss And Tell Di for Sturtmoor, another beautiful bitch, taller than winner but very balanced. Clear wheaten coat of correct texture & in good condition, loved her Spitz head, eye & mobile ears, good neck & shoulders, toned body, correct tail & set. Front movement today not as strong as the winner, also needs her toe nails tidied; 3 Norman’s Marambu Tamnavulin. VB (2) 1 Isaac’s Fullani Feema avec Tonylynn, 11 years old wheaten who enjoyed her outing, good head & expression, well placed shoulders with a solid body, tail & set correct. Her coat was in good condition for her age, moved happily around the ring; 2 Norman’s Tokyn Keeva of Marambu, 13 years old & thoroughly enjoying herself today, she is a credit to her owner to be looking so well. Larger frame than winner, but still balanced, lovely Spitz head & body shape, coat in good condition. GCB (3) 1 Maidofcopper for K; 2 T Andrea; 3 Cobb & Kent’s Knytshall Angel Delight.
