Special thanks to my stewards Drew and Wendy who made me laugh! It is 8 years since I last judged the breed. They are definitely taller and I understand there is a move to increase the Standard to 18.5 inches. Unfortunately for me the typical wedge heads and body haven’t grown to the same ratio, with the length of leg. I just wonder whether this is the right move. In many cases the shoulder placement isn’t correct and this is leading to elbows being out on the move. I accept that the ring surface was abysmal, but, the only dog which in my opinion moved soundly was my BOB. He was not only good front and back but drove with power, effortlessly round the ring. Younger dogs would definitely improve with some road walking, with the added bonus that they would also soon stop leaping around. Try it. Eyes, ear placement and mobility, full dentition and almost all tails were correct, which was a plus. Maybe at a Club event your breed historian can dig out photos of Buhunds of the past, which will show some beautiful heads and profiles, to work towards in future breeding.
PD (2) 1 Deuchar’s Rikarlo Gable. 10mths, needs to strengthen in movement, as he was a little close behind and loose in pastern, but, lovely in profile, correct bend of stifle, good tail set, nice head and expression. 2 Glibbery’s Rikarlo Grant. Longer in leg than 1, which lost the overall sense of balance. He was very unsettled on the move. Lovely head, nice tail set, needs to settle down.
JD (2) Rpt PD.
PGD (1) Rikarlo Grant.
LD (1) Rikarlo Grant.
OD (4) 1 Cobb & Kents Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall. Lovely shape, short compact body, good tail set with level topline. Good head, lovely eye and expression. Good depth of chest and and rib. Moved well. RCC. 2 Ch Arnscroft Never Say Di. Larger and heavier overall than 1. Nice head, expression and pigment. Longer in body, losing him overall balance. 3 Stonton Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack.
VD/B (4) 1 Hood & Collins Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us Rex ShCM. This beautiful dog belied his almost 9years. He was the one dog who had the extra height with matching skull and bone dimensions. He also proved that this is a breed who came from Norwegian terrain. The ring was no issue to him as he effortlessly flew round the ring with near perfect movement front and back. I could have watched him for longer but decoded to be kind to his handler. Those leg muscles worked hard and moved with drive. Mentally he ticked all the boxes as I went over him. One to aspire to and his owners should be proud. DCC, BOB. 2 Cobb & Kents Ch Trelowen Veryan to Knytshall RL1. 10 year old bitch nice shape with good level top line and sweet feminine head. A little heavy due to age, but she moved soundly and is a good solid specimen of the breed. 3 Lambert & Owens Ch Bernegarden’s Reve Enka Av Sturtmoor (imp Nor).
PB (3,1) 1 Crocker Leggatts Voulez Vous. I loved this black bitch. Her coat was a solid black that shone. Feminine head and expression with a true wedge shaped head, just the right breadth between the ears. Short in back giving her a lovely compact profile, just the shape I was looking for, New to the show ring she does need some road work to tighten up those leg muscles from which she will benefit as she matures plus a little training wouldn’t go amiss. I had to move her several times to let her settle, but, I saw enough to give her BP and RCC. 2 Gilpin Rikarlo Gaynor. A sweet puppy with a finer head than 1. Good body and topline. Needs to steady on the move. Please put the work in on these 2 lovely girls and you will reap the rewards.
PGB (1) 1 Frosts, Treadwell & Walmsley Trelowen Amelia at Frostisen. 18 months and for me her poor tail set spoilt the overall picture. However a nice head, well-muscled with good depth of chest and rib.
LB (2) 1 Crocker Knysthall Noor Ul Ain. I liked this bitches overall shape and build She has the correct wedge shaped head, she is well muscled with good depth of brisket. Her colour spoiled the complete package being more of a red/brown than a true black.
OB (6) My first 3 bitches were all of a type and it was interesting to see that they are all sired by the same dog and the top 2 a repeat mating. 1 Garvies Rhialis Lucina. I preferred the head of my winner just that little bit broader between the ears and more to my interpretation of the standard Good topline, correct turn of stifle and correct tail set. Movement was the best of the class. CC. 2 Garvies Ch Rhialis Psyche ShCM. A lighter bitch but longer on the leg than 1. Well made overall but didn’t cver the ground as well. 3 Rumset Ch Arnscroft Di Nah May.
