NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Pastoral Day at East of England Ch Dog show at Peterborough was the Friday, not my local show but only an hour an half away, however for Sarah Stonton it was her local show only, 30mins from her shutting her front door to entering the show, don’t think you can get much more local than that. The show is run by E Of E Agricultural Society and for many years ran alongside the Agricultural Show, but a few years ago the agricultural show ran into financial difficulties. The show had to be cancelled at the last minute due to torrential rain flooding the ground. The dog show survived by moving indoors to the Atrium and has been run by the Society ever since. The old cattle sheds are still used as the benching area, and on hot days keep fairly cool with a through breeze. There were no CCs this year, the set has been moved to Leeds which is now an all breed Ch show. We were very pleased that the show had decided to keep the breed on, in spite of losing the CCs. Not a large but a very quality entry with numerous CC winners among them, awaited our judge Toni Jackson, the well known breeder of Finnish Lapphunds with the Elbereth affix. She started judging in 1986 and has judged in the Nordic countries and on the Continent. In the UK she gives CCs in 7 breeds in the Pastoral Group, 2 in the Utility and one in the Working which is Leonbergers, this was the breed she judged before us with 41 entries.
BOB BB BVB Sue and Laura Cale and Millie Lambert’s Ch/Ir Ch Arnscroft Kiss And Tell Di For Sturtmoor (Ice). RBB Sue Cale, Shirley and Alf Dobson’s Arnscroft Bibbity Bobity Bu. At the other end of the age scale BD & BP was my and daughter Debbie’s Rikarlo Gable (Time). RBD Anne Smith’s Ch Arnscroft Never Say Di. BVD My and Debbie’s Ch/Bel Ch Tonylynn’s Charles LafitteAW(P) RL2EX. Juding over it was back to the benches for our picnic and it was lovely to have Sue and Martin Camm who live locally join us, they have Arnscroft Di Amond Pearl, who sadly was recently attacked by another dog while out on a walk, she is now healing well having had to have stitches. The Pastoral Group was called first which was great, as usually we are second. The groups were held in the Atrium which was nice and cool compared with the hot day outside. Nothing in the groups for Ice or Time but they both showed really well, which is all you can ask. My thanks again go to Jacqui Walmsley for showing Time in the breed and group.
The next day Sarah again had a very long journey to agility this time! 4 miles to Peterborough Rugby Club just across the river. Sarah has recently changed Loxy’s food and says she seems to be much faster, she has also ignored errors at training and just kept running, to give Loxy the power of positive rewards, she is sure this is all helping, as Loxy had been having a slow non concentrating phase, but although there were no clear rounds Sarah felt she had her happy Loxy back again, really enjoying competing.
