NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Sunday 11th October was a busy day for a number of Buhunds and their owners’ attending shows and doing activities. Firstly, it was Pastoral Day at the 88th South Wales Kennel Association Ch show. For many years it was a summer show held at the David Broome Event Centre Chepstow in July, then when the centre was upgraded the show had to move and went to a new venue off the M4, which was just fields. Unfortunately, a river ran alongside the fields, one year half the rings were underwater, then the following year it flooded so badly that at the last minute the show was moved to Newbury showground. The committee obviously decided enough was enough and applied to the KC for permission for the show to move to the Royal Welsh showground in Builth Wells. Unfortunately, only a date in October was available, so in 2009 the show changed from an outside summer show to an inside winter one. Without CCs and in October this has meant that the show has not been very popular with Buhund owners apart from those living in Wales and the West Country, but all that changed this year, with Addreinne Frost -Treadwell travelling over from Eire. The show did not start till 9.30am so not a very early start although some did stay overnight, we were in Ring 8 after 57 Siberian Huskies Our judge was Debbie Stansbury who gives CCs in 18 breeds across the Working and Pastoral Groups and is a Level 2 judge for Buhunds. She found her BD & BOB in Millie Lambert’s Ch Strutmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW ShCEx OSW (Gunna) who is on a winning roll, as well as gaining his crown this win meant he was BOB at all 3 Welsh shows this year WPBAW, WKC and now SWKA. RBD all the way from Eire the Frostisen Kennel of Kerry & Fritz Frost, Addreinne Frost – Treadwell and Caro Flanagan’s Ir Ch Frostisen Yo Samity Sam (Broady)his first visit across the water. Addrienne told me she had only just realised how easy it was to travel the WKC showground from Eire! BB Ann-Marie Taylor and David & Mary Taylor’s Ir Ch Frostisen Blakk Zitter (CW26) Penny. RBB & BV Jacqui Walmsley and the Frostisen Kennel’s Trelowen Amelia At Frostisen (VW) Bunny. Sadly, there were no puppies, although Lewis Rawlinson said he travelled through the valleys to SWKA with Draccus Yang (Nala)but this was for the JB class as Nala is now just out of puppy. She won the class, so more points added towards Buhund of the Year, as each class win at a Ch show adds points. It was a busy show for Buhunds and owners Anne-Marie with Penny won the Adult Handling 46-59yrs, Penny was also 3rd in the AV RKC Good Citizen Dog Scheme class under Del Richards winning £15 ,this was the third year running a Buhund has been placed 3rd in this class, Penny was also 4th in the Ch stakes adding £5 to her prize fund the judge was Russell Mosedale, Gunna took 5th place winning £2 . There was no love in the Group for Gunna although he put his best paw forward.
The second show was Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Association Open Show held at The Havant Civic Centre, in Havant, Hampshire. The Buhund and Group judge was Marianne Benton-Thorpe, who gives CCs in Rough and Smooth Collies. She found her BOB in Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s home bred Mazads Nom De Plume (Dexter)he was later PG 2. RBOB was Sue & Sam Crocker’s and Jasmine Freeborn’s Leggatts Voulez Vous (Tissy) handled for the first time in the ring by Sam, as her usual handler Jasmine was stewarding along with Neil Hood. Marie was also very pleased as her and Adam’s Ch Kligenthal Almuric ShCEx (Bergen) was 2nd in AV Pastoral.
Thirdly, this time an activity but still a competition, Jacque Cobb took Knytshall Love In The Mist (Misty) and her mum Knystshall Eloise to Coppice Gate Farm Shapwick Somerset to compete in Level 2 and Level 4 Rally. The judge for L2 was Sharon Tamblyn and for L4 it was Alex Cook. Jacque said both dogs gained the same identical score of 193 albeit at different levels. Misty’s scores took her out of L2 and into L3 and for Eloise it was her first Excellent score in L4. Congratulations Jacque, and if any of you want to be reminded on how the scoring works it is my notes of 25th September this year.
Fourthly, Time (Ch Rikarlo Gable JW) and I headed off to a farm in Northamptonshire to practice looking for those elusive scent hides.
Addreinne Frost – Treadwell has sent me the Irish recently published points for top breeder and top dogs so far this year, which make for interesting reading. They are worked out in much the same way as our points,5pts for 1st Green Star (CC)and 1pt for each one after. Frostisen has 48 pts and Trelowen 14. Interestingly the Top Bitch on 6pts is Ann-Marie Taylor and David & Mary Taylor’s Ir Ch Frostisen Blakk Zitter (CW26)who resides in the UK but has been very successful on her visits to Eire, also on 6points Int /Ir Ch Frostisen Zsa (Zsa)and Int/Ir Ch Frostisen You Win Again CW (Skye)and on 5 points Frostisen Blakk Zeta (Birdie) who also resides in England with Jacqui Walmsley .Top Dog Int /Ir Ch Frostisen Yo Samity CW 23.24 25 (Broady) on 10points who was RBD at SWKA .On 9points Uk/Ir /Int Ch Frostisen Zeffer CW (Loki) who is Penny’s litter brother, he also resides in England with owners Jenny & Dave Langford 3rd Ir/Int Ch Trelowen Aviator at Frostisen(Maggit) with 8 pts and 4th Ir Ch Trelowen Forest Gump (ai) Gumpy on 6 points.
