Breed Notes 15th November 2024 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Those interested in showing may hope that their puppy will gain a ‘Junior Warrant’, not easy with a numerically small breed with 25points needed from Championship and Open Show before the dog is 18 months. Following on from this is ‘The Show Certificate of Excellence’ which can be gained after the dog has reached 18months of age. The 50 points needed can only be gained from General and Group Open shows, this certificate replaces the ‘Show Certificate of Merit’ where only 25points were needed. The RKC’s idea was to encourage more people to go Open Shows. Until 3rd of November the only dog to have gained this award was Neil Hood’s Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us Rex ShCM ShCEx VW(Dino). He also had the previous Certificate of Merit. Now Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Ch Kligenthal Almuric (Bergen) can add ShCEx after his name. Points gained are as follows 5points BIS 3points RBIS Group placing 1st – 4points down to 4th -1point. 1point BOB/Best AVNSC. A minimum of 5points must be won in group competition at shows judged on the group system. Bergen started gaining points at the Nordic held at the Sports Connexion Coventry on 5th Dec 2021 when he was BOB under Krystan Greenland 1 point. At Hitchin and District Open Show held at Brook Farm, Staple Abbotts on 11th April 2022 under Jacky Cutler he was Best AVNSC and G1 giving him a total of 5 points. The Dullingham Polo Fields hosted Herts and Essex Border Canie Society Premier Show held on 15th May where Peter Simmons awarded Bergen BOB & G3 so 3 points. Helen Hankins awarded him Best AVNSC 1point at Eastbourne & DCS Premier OS.

On 26th June at The South of England Showground. Another 2 points from Evesham & DCS Premier show held on the Three Counties Showground where under judge Terry Cousins he was BOB & G4. Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Show 17th August hosted an open show with Marina White awarding Bergen another point for BOB. A 4month wait for the next points but worth it as on 27th December Wealdstone and Northolt Canine Society Premier show was held at Brunel Sports Centre Uxbridge, BOB 1 point under Michelle Smee and an extra 4 points from judge Sandie Tadd for G1. Much further away in Somerset on 15th January 2023 at the Wells Springs Leisure Centre, 1 point was awarded from Marion Hodgson for BOB and 1 point from Steve Bennett for G4. East Kent Canine Society show was held on 5th Feb at The Market Hall Maidstone where Neil Hood awarded Bergen Best AVNSC and G2 so another 4 points. Portsmouth and Southsea Kennel Assoc held its second show of the year on the 8th of Oct 2023 with another point for BOB under Peter Young. This was followed on the 10th November by the last open show of the year for Bergen, Wealdstone and Northolt Canine Society Premier Show held this time on the South of England Showground with another point from Lisa Strong for BOB and 4points Ian Blackshaw for G1.The first show of 2024 was Lichfield CS Premier Show held on 6th January at Bingley Hall Stafford with 1point for Best AVNSC and 2points for G3 under Krystan Greenland. 1point from Sandie Tadd at National Working and Pastoral Breeds Premier Show held on 10th February at the Sports Connexion Coventry. Newmarket and District Premier was held on 8th June at the Leisure & Sports Centre Ely,1 point under Marina White for BOB. Evesham & DCS Premier again held on the Three Counties Showground with 1 point for BOB under Steve Bennett and another for G4 under Josh Henderson. Horley & District Premier Show was held on 25th August on the South of England Showground, Gary Clarke was the judge awarding Bergen BOB so another point. That meant only 1point was needed to get to the magic 50points.This was gained on 3rd November almost 3yrs from Bergen gaining his 1st point, the show was East Kent Canine Society show held at The Market Hall Maidstone where the judge Anne Webb awarded Bergen Best AVNSC. Over the shows there was a total of 21 different judges, which is a good way to get the breed better known .15 Norwegian Buhund BOBs which is also great as it shows that more shows are scheduling the breed .4 Best AVNSC Pastoral,4 x G1 1 xG2 2 x G3 and 4 xG4.There is no time limit on gaining this award ,but as Marie said she dreads to think how many miles she travelled to the shows, and of course there were also shows where he did not get a point! Many congratulations, I gather Bergen is having well-earned rest from open shows for a while.

On Saturday 9th November there was a London Buhund Bumble organised by Julia Engstad, it was rather cold and overcast but at least it was dry. Marie Corin and Adam Camm took Bergen aka Ch Kligenthal Almuric & ,Dexter aka Mazada Nom De Plume, Nova aka Kligenthal Shadownova who Bergen’s litter sister also went along ,as did Andrew Georgiou who took Leo aka Sturtmoor Destiny’y Day who is black, Andrea & Andrew Platts went with Mazads Joie De Vivre (Luna)and Julia’s took her Arven aka Wheatshade Brada Hill (ai) ,the dogs took their owners for a walk or run in some cases run round Regents Park, after which some owners and dogs retired to the local hostelry. Always so great to have these Bumbles for owners who we do not meet at shows.

Julia’s Arven who is by Trollheimens JR Made For Cascilius x Kata Syndattir Av Fjeldvidda At Wheatshade Imp NLD has recently had a clear eye test and a hip score of 12.
