On December 27th Lisa Strong organised the last Bumble of the year at Attenborough Nature Reserve, Nottingham, this is a beautiful complex of flooded former gravel pits and islands which provides an exceptional habitat for a wide range of wildlife. Luton Canine Association ran a 537-class two-day open show at the Kennel Club Building Stoneleigh Park .The first day was Sunday 29th December with Toy Utility Pastoral and Working Groups. Jenny Shorer took her homebred Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW (ai)(Muchly)and her son Ollie’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel(Inky), Jenny said it was a superbly run show, well thought out and well-paced . The day started with Muchly topping the Luton Canine Association Champions stakes under Julien Barney winning £20 fuel /treat money, Inky then took 3rd in AVNSC Pastoral Puppy with Muchly winning AVNSC Open, but Best AVNSC went to a stunning Terv puppy bitch, the judge was Chris Briggs. Inky was then 4th in a huge Taylormade Puppy Stakes with the judge again being Julien Barney and with another £5 being added to fuel /treat pot. Inky then finished the day in style by winning the AV Pastoral Puppy under Andrew Stewart gaining another precious JW point. Jenny said she so pleased that many judges had recognised Inky’s qualities as she had thought she was something special when she first saw her at 4 weeks old.
Coventry Ladies’ Kennel Society Open Show was held on New Year’s Day 1st January at The Sports Connexion Ryton-on-Dunsmore, no breed classes but there were two Buhund puppies entered in AVNSC Pastoral Puppy under Barry Blunden. The winner was Millie Lambert’s homebred Sturtmoor Gon’n Dun It (Gunna), 3rd was Ollie’s Inky, Ollie was accompanying his mother Jenny to her third dog show in seven days .Later Gunna won the Pastoral Puppy Group also under Barry Blunden. Jenny said she and Ollie were about to head home when the Keith Macgregor Special Puppy Stakes were called the judge was Russell Mosedale, and Jenny said from a huge class she was thrilled that Inky made it through 2 shortlists and ended in 3rd place winning £20.She said normally any prize money would go into owner Ollie’s wallet but on this occasion he spent it on tea for them both.
On the 4th of January, Millie took Gunna to Taunton & District Canine Association 283 class open show, held at the Wellsprings Leisure Centre Taunton. This is a two day show with Saturday being Pastoral day along with the Working ,Utility and Toy Groups. Again, no breed classes but that did not stop Gunna winning the Graduate AVNSC Pastoral class , gaining another Junior Warrant Point his 12th .He was also Best AVNSC Puppy and then Puppy Group 2 under judge Brenda Piers. So, a very good week with a PPG 1 and a PPG 2 in just 4days . They just arrived home safely as the snow moved in.
The same day but much further north Jenny took Muchly and Inky to Lichfield Canine Society 730 class Premier open show, held in the Sandylands, Argyle & Prestwood Centres Bingley Hall, Stafford. The show won the Best Open Show in the Pawscars awards in 2018. It was also a two day show with the Pastoral , Working , Utility and Toy Groups on the Saturday. Sadly again no breed classes ,Muchly was Best AVNSC with Inky in the Reserve spot, she was also Best AVNSC Puppy. The judge was Gary Clark who also judged the groups awarding Muchly PG2 and Inky PPG 3. Being a Premier show 1-4 in both Groups qualify for Crufts 2025,but Inky had already qualified at LKA Ch show . Jenny said she was glad the show was on the Saturday as heavy snow moved into the area overnight, so said she would not have been going anywhere on the Sunday. It will have been hard for the committees of the 2 day shows in the snowy areas, although the snow in the south turned to rain quickly. I know Worcester & Malvern Canine Society show at Stoneleigh went ahead but there was no Buhund representative .
