NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
I can hardly believe that we are at the end of July already although to be honest down here in London I cannot really say I have enjoyed the summer so far, it has been more a case of surviving with one heat wave after another, which is sad, as it is normally so enjoyable with the long lighter evenings, Time now rarely goes out into the garden until it is dark as he knows it will be cooler then.
Pastoral day at Leeds Ch show was Saturday 25th July, the first show was held in 1951 at Roundhay Park in Leeds then moving to Temple Newsam also in Leeds where it stayed till 1982, when it moved to the beautiful grounds of Harewood House it was a two-day show, then as the entries rose it moved up to three days and is now a four day All Breed Show. It is a completely outside show and the layout has also changed over the years; there are now 3 marquees with the popular in and out rings and a Trade Village which I think works well. although sadly it is not benched show. We were first in Ring 12, the ground as you would expect this year was very parched but being fist in Ring the temperature was very pleasant. Our judge was the well know allrounder Jill Peak giving CCs in the breed for the 7th time, she gives CCs in dogs from all groups and judged the Utility group the next day .She last judged the breed in 2024 at Welsh Kennel and before that in 2022 at Darlington. She found her BOB & DCC his 4th in Millie Lambert’s homebred Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (Gunna), he is by Draccus Diamond Day O’ Buhcafrey x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee,he also has 3RCCs, he is definitely on a roll having gained his crown at NW& PBS two weeks ago and the next day at Evesham Premier show he gained his final points for his Show Certificate of Excellence (ShCEx) and Open Show Winner (OSW). RDCC his fifth Cheryl and Paul Denham-Horton’s Ch Tapui Haraldsson at Jjavacobe (Hogan)he also has 3CCs and is by NUCH Kimura’s Harald Harfagre x Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Bodi)(Imp Aus)who was the BCC here, she is owned by Kirsty Ann Irvine and is by Aus Ch Kyon Urban Legand (Imp US) x Nor /UCH Ch Rennedal’s Brynhild Skjoldmoy(Imp Nor) this was her 14th CC she also has 4RCCS.RCC her 4th she also has 5CCs Ollie Wheeler’s Ch Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW (Inky), she is by Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Knytshall Eloise.BV Lillian & Mike Rumsey’s Kata Syndattir Av Fjeldvidda At Wheatshade(Darcy) (Imp NL) by Nordspetsens Milou x Syn Tyradottir Av Fjeldvidda. Many of you know that Jenny is a fantastic cake maker and to celebrate her gaining her 100 CC at SKC (101 since then) for dogs owned or bred by her, she took an amazing cake to Leeds. It had strawberries in pink icing round the top with photos of some of the dogs that had helped her gain the 100, with the wording said ‘101 CCs 12 Beloved Dogs. Many brilliant memories. Here’s to the next 100! Koromandel’.
The same day but much further south Jasmine Freeborn headed off with her and Sue & Sam Crocker’s Leggatts Voulez Vous (Tissy ) to Wiveliscombe and District Canine Society Summer Premier Open Show, which was also their 40th Year Anniversary Show, it was held at Oake Village Hall & Lawns in Tauton Somerset, Buhund judge Mel Carter awarded Tissy BOB, later she was shortlisted in a large PG under Antony Bongiovanni.
A bit further away in fact across the Irish Sea, there were 3 shows held over the weekend on Cork County Showground. On Saturday Munster Agricultural dog show was held in the morning
Darren Treadwell, Kerry and Fritz Frost and Addreienne Frost- Treadwell and Jacqui Walmsley’s Frostisen Blakk Zeta (Birdie) was graded Very Good and Jennifer and Dave Langford’s Ch/Ir Ch Frostisen Zeffer (Loki) (handled by Addreienne ) was Graded Excellent, he won the Green Star Dog (like our CC) and BOB later he was shortlisted in the group under judge Yla-Mononen Satu from Finland. Loki and Zeta are litter brother and sister by Ir Ch Leggats Fernando From Frostisen(Imp UK) x Ir Ch Kyons Dronnimgen Av Frostisen (Imp Can). In the afternoon show the judge was Colm Hastings from Ireland both Birdie and Loki were graded Excellent winning the BGS &DGS respectively and Loki winning BOB. These two shows were National Shows the next day it was an International Show meaning that as well as Green Stars, there were also FCI CACIB’S on offer (Champion International de Beaute), to become an Int Ch the dog must win 4 CACIBs in Ireland which are only available at International shows under at least 3 different judges, a year and a day apart from the first and the last. On the Sunday Birdie was graded very good with Loki graded Excellent winning the GSD BOB & his 4th CACIB which means now subtext to FCI approval he is now an Int Ch making him the 25th Frostisen Int Ch, he was also shortlisted in Group 5 which is for Spitz and Primitive Breeds , the judge was Astrid Lundava from Estonia.
