NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
The end of year awards compiled by David Franks on behalf of ‘Our Dogs’ are keenly fought, with LKA often being the deciding show. The winners get a goody bag from the sponsors and a rosette. The Top Puppy competition was sponsored by Purina Pro Plan and as I said in last week’s notes, was won by Kirsty & Alex Irvine and Callum Gillies homebred Tapui Let’s Blaze.
The winner of the Arden Grange ‘Top Dog’ competition was Nancy Kent and Jacqui & Michael Cobb’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall(Jamie), bred by Jenny Shorer-Wheeler he is by Ch /Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidodcopper For Koromandel (Imp Fin) JW. Although the start of the show season last year was rather delayed, once it started Jamie was on a roll. His first CC with BOB was at Leeds under Jeff Horswell his second CC also with BOB came just 9 days later at Bath under Hedd Richards, then there were several weeks without CC shows, the next CC show was Richmond with Breed specialist Millie Lambert -Dovey holding centre stage, here he gained his 3rd CC of the year also with BOB. At the other end of the country the May rescheduled SKC took place in October with one of the UK’s top all-rounders Albert Wight officiating, Jamie was again BOB so adding another CC to his list, he finished the year at LKA winning his 5th CC of the year again with BOB under Charlotte John, so a well-deserved Top Dog.
Jamie also won the Purina Pro Beta Plan ‘Top Stud Dog’ competition. His daughter Millie Lambert-Dovey’s home bred Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee(Sheira) x Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva won her first CC with BOB under Lynne Salt at National Working & Pastoral Breeds, which in July was the first CC show of the year for the breed. At the same show my and daughter Debbie’s Rikarlo Gable (Time) who is also by Jamie won his third CC, his dam is Ch Kimura’s Vera with Tapui and he was bred by Lorraine Bolton. Sheira’s 2nd CC came at Bath, so it was sire and daughter winning the CCs under Hedd Richards. At the rescheduled Birmingham National in September, Sheira won her 3rd CC and crown with Time winning the DCC and BOB under Chris Chapman.
The Purina Pro Plan ‘Top Brood Bitch’ competition was won by Jamie’s dam Jenny Shorer-Wheeler’s Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel Imp Fin JW(Piika) by Nor Ch Gnipagrottan Qu x Swe/Fin Ch Cipacan Milla Magia and bred by Anna -Leena Laakso. Pikka also has prize winning offspring across the pond with Jamie’s litter sister Koromandel Grat Kaos being an Am/Can Ch. In Finland her daughter Koromandel Kullanmuru(Fanni)has a CAC & a RCAC and in Germany her daughter Koromandel Kjaereste (Ylvie)has 2 CACs & 2 CACIBs they are both by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah Of Koromandel JW SHCM.(CAC = CC. CACIB is the International CC) Of course none of these wins contribute to any UK awards.
The Arden Grange ‘Top Breeder’ competition was won by Di Stirling’s Arnscroft Kennel with points from Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack, by Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor x Ch Arnscroft Di Or Comply who won the CC & BOB at Darlington under Espen Eng. At SKC Maddy Norman’s Ch Arnscroft Delilah At Veekay (Lottie) who is Jack’s younger sister was BCC under Albert Wight. At the club Ch show Anne Smith’s Ch Arnscroft Never Say Di (Oskar) by Ch /Am Ch Vision’s Dino Of Trollheimen (Imp USA) x Arnscroft Di Sing On Ice, was BIS under Robin Newhouse.
How these awards are worked out are in ‘Our Dogs’ but apart from the Top Puppy they are all based on the CCs a dog wins, with the first CC of the year gaining the most points.
The latest Bu Bumble on 30th January was organised by Penny & Tom Glibbery with Indy who regularly accompanies Tom on his Park Runs. Penny said it was held in Sutton Park Cannock Chase, with the dogs having a wonderful time running through the woods and streams. Those joining the fun were Harriet Hitchman and Sam Lee who brought Fly and her son Rufus, and the Labrador pup Erik. Phil Hall and Natasha came with Juki who is Indy’s younger brother. Penny also said they were joined by a lovely couple Kelcey Paterson and Daryl Jones, who have been visiting the breed at Discover Dogs for several years and are hoping to have a Bu of their own in the future! she hoped the muddy Buhunds at the end of the walk did not put them off. Thanks Penny it certainly didn’t as Daryl asked to join the forum in the evening after the walk! It is so great that many of those that have seen the breed at Discover Dogs are joining Bumbles to learn more about the breed before having a puppy.
Stay safe everyone.
