NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
The Bank Holiday weekend proved to be a busy one for some Buhunds and their owners. The last time we had CCs at Driffield Championship Dog Show was in 2018, the set of CCs then went to Darlington which became an All-Breed show. Driffield at that time was held on Wetherby Racecourse, once we had no CCs, they dropped us from the schedule. In 2024 the show was cancelled as there was severe damage to the marquees and show fixtures just before the she started due to high winds, last year to make up for the cancelled show they ran two shows together as SKC do each year. The committee obviously decided to follow the lead of some other outside summer shows over the years and move indoors and with permission from the RKC, this year they celebrated their Golden Anniversary Show at Stafford. Over the past few years there have been Buhunds in the AVNSC classes and this year Millie Lambert’s home bred Sturtmoor’s Gon’s Dun It JW SHCEX OSW (Gunna)was BOB AVNSC, under judge Kevin Young, so it was lovely to have a Buhund in the group again.
The following day Saturday 29th it was Newton Abbot & South Devon Canine Society show held at The Matford Livestock Centre, Exeter, Devon again no breed classes, the AVNSC judge was Alan Rathband where Lewis Rawlingson & Laura Begney’s Draccus Yang (Nala) was second and litter brother Chris & Bridget Curnow’s Draccus Yin (Magnus) third in the graduate class.
Horley & District Show Society Premier Open Show was held on the Sunday30th at the South of England Agricultural Showground in Sussex. Lisa Srong is chief steward, with several other club members being involved this year. It is a very busy show with 787 breed classes 2 Junior Handling & 3 Adult Handling, and a JW heat. The Buhund judge was Dr Johanna Rees (Bucamereru) judging for first time. She co owns Draccus Obsidian At Bucameraru (Ruby) with husband Nick and daughter Bethany who competes in junior handing and other activities with her. Dr Jo found her BOB in Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s home bred Mazads Nom De Plume (Dexter) with Lewis & Laura’s Nala RBOB & BP she was later Puppy Group 4 under Mrs Cheryl Pierpoint. After judging Jo stewarded, with husband Nick, Bethany and brother Sam also helping, well done, all shows need help and it is the only way they can keep going.
Thursday September 3rd was Pastoral Day at City of Birmingham Canine Association Ch show held at Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire; it is another summer show that went indoors many years ago. We lost CCs there in 2019, but they kept us scheduled until a low entry in 2022 of just 4dogs.This year we had a representative in the AVNSC classes where under Derek Allsop Chris & Bridget’s Magnus was RBD & BP.
Most of you know that we can have two Ch shows a year but one must be with a partner show, last year the second one was with Darlington but this year we wanted to have one a little more central so went with City of Birmingham. You will have realised from my previous comments that Pastoral day there was Thursday, but they agreed to allow us to have our parter show with them on the Saturday which was Utility and Terrier Day. It wasn’t quite as we planned as we were in the ring at 9am which meant very early start for some and they only gave us an hour and a half ,but we had a lovely big green carpeted ring and they give us a table out side the ring so we could have a Buhund area with the trophies, picnic and somewhere to sort out the paper work at the end .We also had a very experienced judge in Sue Bird who last judged the breed on May 2022 at SKC and gives CCs in 26 breeds and I stewarded so we managed to keep things moving along, and only over ran by about quarter of an hour. Sue found her DCC his 4th he also has 5RCCs in Cheryl and Paul Denham-Horton’s Tapui Haraldsson at Jjavacobe (Hogan) by NUCH Kimura’s Harald Harfagre x Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Bodi) (Imp Aus). RDCC his 20th he also has 24CCs he was also BVD & BVIS Jacque and Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall (Jamie) he is by Ch/Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maid of Copper For Koromandel (Imp Fin) BPD & Best Black Dog & RBPIS Chris & Bridget Curnow’s Draccus Yin (Magnus) he is by Hogan x Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus (Eris). RBIS BOSIS & BCC her 15th she also has 4RCCS Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Bodi)(Imp Aus) by Aus Ch Kyon Urban Legand (Imp US) x Nor /UCH Ch Rennedal’s Brynhild Skjoldmoy(Imp Nor) RBCC BVB & RBVIS Jenny Shorer-Wheelers Ch Sturtmoor’s Ffascination with Koromandel(Fable) she is by Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva. BPB and BPIS Lewis Rawlingson & Laura Begney’s Draccus Yang (Nala)who is Magnus litter sister. Best Black in Show was Ann-Marie Taylor, David and Mary Taylor’s Ir Ch Frostisen Blakk Zitter (CW) (Imp Ir). She won the open Bitch Class and has 1CC & 6RCCs she is by Ir Ch Leggatts Fernando From Frostisen (Imp Uk) x Ir Ch Kyon’s Dronningen Av Frostisen (Imp Can). Those t eagle eyed among you will see that the BIS Hogan & RBIS Bodie are son and mother and Hogan is the sire of the two puppies and the RBVIS Fable is by the BVIS show Jamie but they all also include bloodlines from outside the UK. Being a Ch show we also have Trophy Challenges which is where the Dog & Bitch class winners compete against each other for the Trophy, some of course are obvious. BP Nala. No Junior. Best Special Working Dog My Ch Rikarlo Gable JW (Time) he has 9CCs and 11Res CCs and is by Ch Koromandel Best Seved Cold At Knytshall x Ch Kimura’s Vera With Tapui.
There were other classes which I will talk about next week, I must finish with thanks to Lisa Strong for bringing her ramp. Nancy Kent for helping as always and bringing picnic food. Jo Rees and Jacquie Cobb for sorting out the Trophies. Show Manager Chris Maynard for keeping an eye on everything and last but certainly not least our hard-working secretary Jenny Shorer -Wheeler for organising the show, printing all the schedules and numbers and providing the toys as prizes, with the 1st and 2nd in every class having a toy.
