Breed Notes 13th February 2026 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
It is great to be able to report on some shows back in the UK having a dearth of them for Buhunds recently. On Saturday 7th February Ilfracombe and District held their 90th Anniversary Open Show, held at The Matford Centre, Marsh Barton, Exeter. The Buhund judge was Josh Henderson, and he awarded BOB to Mary and Coralie Dosson’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby), with kennel mate Mary and husband David’s Kimura Ola Normann (Ola)(Imp Nor) winning RBOB and BP, he was later Puppy Group 2 under judge Brooke Taylor.

Marie Corin had her first judging appointment at Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Association show held on Sunday 8th February at Havant Leisure Centre in Havant. Marie who as most of you know with Adam Camm owns Ch Kligenthal Almuric (SHCEX) and Mazads Nom De Plume (Dexter),who she bred under her Mazads affix. Marie grew up with Buhunds as her parents had Squirreldene Buhunds and still remain friends with Roger Thomas. Marie had a break from the breed until coming back with Bergen in 2019, making up him up at Windsor in 2024.Marie found her BOB in Sue Crocker and Jasmine Freeborn’s Ch Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle), with RBOB going to Anne-Marie Taylor & David Taylor’s Frostisen Blakk Zitter (Penny). Much further north Barrow & District Kennel Association open show was held at the Kendal Leisure Centre Burton Road Kendal, where Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Bodi)was BAVNSC and Pastoral Group 1 under Kat Copley-Holland who judged all the Pastoral breeds and the Adult & Puppy Group.

Well, Westminster is done and dusted for another year, you can watch the judging of most breeds and the groups on you tube. BOB was MBIS MRBIS NBISS GCHS Cloudpointe Keep Your Anenomes Closer (Nemo) handled by Amie McLaughlin and owned by Amie, Ginny Verville & Skyler Coldiron .He is out of Jotunn Kola Karina Av Cloudpointe by Arnscroft Be A Sailors Son Di(Skipper) bred by Di Stirling who co owns him, with Amie and Joy Fowler and is full brother to Sarah Stonton’s Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack, they are by Di’s Ch Di To Be A Sailor (Sirius) who in turn goes back to Trollheimen and Kimura lines so very International. Nemo also made the cut in the herding group which is more or less the same breeds as in our Pastoral Group. Amie says Nemo has now gone home to his other owners having spent 10months showing with Amie, becoming Top Buhund and 16th in the Herding Group. BOS was Faye Adox Ch Fabrajs Best Kept Secret (Reisling) CGCA CGCU TKI bred, owned and handled by Faye she is by Ratsunummen August -Runa x Fabraj’s Everyone Is Going To Know My Name. Faye also owned the Select Dog (reserve best dog) GCHB Ch Fabrajs Enchantingly Loyal CGCA CGCU TKN ATT (Hagrid)handled by Eva Vanderslice. Apparently, the severe wintry weather did affect some breeds, particularly the ones with only one or two entries with some having no dogs forward, particular those coming from the other side of the country with the airlines not flying dogs because of the cold and the roads covered in snow and ice. The following weekend 7/8th February Faye said 5 Buhunds were back in New York for ‘Meet The Breeds’ our equivalent of ‘Discover Dogs’, Faye took Fraser who is Black so both colours on view, it was interesting that one of the photos they use is of one of a Buhund bred by Debbie Fleming. They usually have about 20,000 visitors, so busy busy.

We all know that FB can have a very unpleasant side, but one of the really great sides is when you can sit with a cup of tea and watch some fabulous dogs take part in the Eukanuba Champion Stakes and Pup of the Year Final, live streamed by Our Dogs from the Chesford Grange Hotel Kenilworth, and commented on by our own Jenny Shorer-Wheeler. May be one day there might be a Ch Buhund competing, many years ago Kirsty’s Tapui Tane competed in the Pup of the Year having won through from Manchester Ch show when he was just 6months old, the show was then still being held in Manchester.

I finish with the sad news that Sue Coe has had to say goodbye to her Ch Trelowen Big Daddy bred by Sue Avery, he was born on 17th December 2012 one of a litter of 7 by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola, in his younger days he would run with Sue’s Husky Team!
