Breed Notes 13th October 2017 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

SOUTH Wales Kennel Association has scheduled the breed for many years without CCs for which we are very grateful, as the show scène would be sparse without these shows. This year Pastoral Day was Sunday, the show is held on the Royal Welsh showground Builth Wells and now held in the middle of October, it tends only to be popular with Buhund owners who live in the West Country. It has been held there since 2010, before that it was on the Wales and West Showground at Crick near Chepstow, which was the Event Centre of David Broome who was a very successful show jumper. When the site was redeveloped the show moved to fields in USK, these had good access as it was just off the M4 and being in July had a good entry for a non CC show. The fields though  were very near the river and low lying, and with our Summer weather the inevitable happened, just before the show in 2009 the showground flooded and at the last minute the show was moved to the showground at Newbury where Southern Counties is held. The next year the committee had obvious decided that they could not risk it happening again, so with the permission of the KC they moved the show to the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells, unfortunately their usual date was not free on the showground, so it had to be in October so that it did not clash with any other Ch shows. Although the car park can become muddy at least the benching area and rings are always dry, but of course one cannot have everything as the rings are on concrete, which is always very hard for dogs and handlers alike.

Our judge was Darren Clarke who is on our judging list; he gives CCs in Border Collies Briards & Hungarian Pulis. We were last in the ring with 4 breeds before us, not going in until after lunch. It did give time though for our great supporter of the breed Pat Williams to catch up with everyone. Pat lives locally so always visits when the show is in town. .

BOB & BB Millie Lambert’s Sturtmoor Eezee Luvva by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel x Sturtmoor Dream Maker at Gazenorth, her first show out of puppy was WKC but at the moment is still Top Puppy this year. RBB Brenda and Tony Bethell’s Lux /Int Ch Arnscroft Glad Di Ola by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Ch Arnscroft Kiss and Sturtmoor. Brenda and Tony’s success continued as BD was their  Zodiac’s Featuring Fredrik At Taevas Of Minforst(Imp US) by Am Ch Hundehaven’ Captain Voyager x Am Ch Zodiac’s Gracious  Gretchen.RBD Jacqui Walmsley’s Blakk Extacy Van Koekie’s Ranch (Imp Ned) he is by Ned Ch Med Hjartas Assar x Ned Ch Yrsa-Jitze Fra Den Norske Garden.

The same weekend across the Irish Sea the Irish KC held two International shows. The Buhunds were judged on the Saturday by Karl Johansson from Sweden who has judged all over the world and since 1997 has been an all breeds FCI judge. The Sunday saw  Ms E Agafonova from Italy hold centre stage, on both days BOB & Green Star Bitch was  Kerry and Fritz Frosts’s Trelowen Anastasia by  Conar Tun x  Trelowen Kyoo BD was Dermont Buckley and Kerry & Fritz Frost’s  Trelowen Dison also by Conar Tun x Trelowen Lola.

I finish with very sad news from Maddy Norman who has had to say goodbye to her Inga (Tokyn Keeva of Marambu) just two months short of her 15th birthday, she was by Trelowen Govyn of Marambu (Oscar) x Ichmoran Zanta at Trelowen. She was regularly shown at Crufts, last year winning the VB class and being VHC this year. It has been a sad few months for Maddy, as in July she said goodbye to Inga’s sire Oscar just short of his 17th birthday. Over the years they had both kept the Buhund flag flying in the Brace & Veteran stakes classes especially at Windsor being placed on several occasions.
