Breed Notes 16th May 2025 Margaret Deuchar

Norwegian Buhunds

A number of Buhunds and their owners were out and about at shows over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday the 3rd of May it was Oakhampton & District Canine Society show, held at The Grange Oakhampton. Nicky Mackie was the AVNSC and Group Judge, awarding Anne Marie-Taylor & David Taylor’s Frostisen Black Zitter (Penny)Best AVNSC and then short listed her in a large group. The following day Sunday 4th May Jacqui Walmsley took her and the Frostisen’s Kennel of Addrienne Frost -Treadwell, Kerry and Fritz Frost’s Trelowen Amelia at Frostisen (Bunny) to Yeovil & District Canine Society open show, where Bunny won the Pastoral Veteran Group under Edward Forsey meaning that she now needs 4 points for her Veteran Warrant. They were only 15mins from home on the Turnpike Showground Motcome Dorset so Frostisen Zeta (Birdie ) also went along ,and was of BOB under Tate Forsey, with Anne Marie -Taylor & David Taylors Penny RBOB , it was a family affair as they are litter sisters. Across the Irish Sea in Eire another litter sister the Frostisen owned Frostisen ZsaZsa won the Bitch Green Star at the Fermoy Int Show, she lives with Kerry Frost and is shown by Addrienne. Back in the UK the same day Pontypridd Canine Society founded in 1908 held its Open Show at the Merthyr Leisure Centre. Phillip Lovel judged the breed and group awarding Millie Pentland’s Gunna aka Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun. BOB and the Group, his first adult group. He is aptly named as he gained his Junior Warrant only a few days out of puppy, not easy in any breed certainly not easy in a numerically small breed. It did not stop there as the next day they went to Aberystwyth & District Canine Society Premier Show held at the United Counties Showground Carmarthen – Gunna was again BOB under Delphine Richards, and was again PG1 under Dee Thomas – so back to back group wins, what a great weekend they had.

Also over the weekend Lucy Beatrice Gilbert took her Leggatts Fly Like An Eagle aka Zuki to Crazepup Dog Training Club, where she trains agility and at their show they won the Intermediate section of the steeplechase competition, and is now 3rd in the club’s steeplechase league.

On the Wednesday after Bank Holiday Sarah Stonton took Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack to Attleborough Boxing Club nr Thetford for a National Nosework Trial. The ‘Indoor Search’ included a – foyer, toilet, kitchen, perimeter of room, around arena and boxing equipment, training room with treadmills / bikes / weights etc, office type room. Exterior Search was – windy, long wall, area of wood & scrap metal, then under cover areas with old tractors & equipment + array of metal / wood “stuff”. Congratulations as they ended up with the Reserve medal.

Apologies as at Plymouth Canine Society show held on Easter Sunday the judge was Michelle Smee not Richard Forsythe as there was a last-minute change of judge

Will talk about Birmingham National next week.
