Breed Notes 18th October 2024 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Pastoral Day at the 86th South Wales Kennel Association Ch show was Friday 11th October. When I first came into the breed some 30 plus years ago, the show was held at the David Broome Event Centre Chepstow in July, then when the centre was upgraded the show could no longer be held there and moved to a venue off the M4, which was just fields. It was only there for a few years as a river ran alongside the fields, and I remember judging with half the ring underwater. The following year it flooded so badly that the show could not be held and had at the last minute be moved to Newbury showground. After that the committee applied to the KC for permission for the show to be held on the Royal Welsh showground at Builth Wells in October.(which was the only date available ), so in 2009 the show changed from an outside summers how to inside winter one .Without CCs and in October this has meant that usually the show has been attended only by those Buhund owners living in the West Country and Wales. Happily, the heavy rain of the previous days had stopped, with the weather being dry and bright if rather chilly. The show was benched but exhibitors needed to take their own chairs. Judging for our ring did not start till 11am and we were third in the Ring after 15 Bullmastiffs and 6 Briards. The breed judge was Dr Elizabeth Ashcroft who has attended our Breed Appreciation Day and shows Siberian Huskies, her Ch Ninlil of Poliarine Arktika Over Zanjelic JW was BVIS at City of Birmingham last year having previously been a finalist in the Junior Warrant competition at Crufts in 2017. Dr Ashcroft found her BOB,BD and BP in Millie Lambert’s homebred Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It ( Gunna),he is just six months old and was also shortlisted in the Puppy Group under Jeff Luscott. Gunna’s first show was just 5 days earlier when he was BPIS at Aberystwyth & District Canine Society Show, so a great start to his showing career. BB & BV Kerry & Fritz Frost, Addreinne Frost-Treadwell and Jacqui Walmsley’s Trelowen Amelia At Frostisen (Bunny),she was also 3rd in the AV Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakes under Bill Browne-Cole winning some very good treat money. RBB Anne Marie Taylor’s Frostisen’s Blakk Zitter (Penny)
Two days later Sunday 13th it was Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Assoc Open Show held at Havant Leisure Centre Havant Hant. The Buhund judge was Miss J Binden who gives CCs in GSDs. Sue Crocker Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle) was BOB handled as usually by Jasmine Freeborn. RBOB Anne -Marie Taylor’s Frostisen’s Blakk Zitter (Penny). Sue’s Leggatts Superstition (Franny)was BP and Puppy Group3. Kerry & Fritz Frost, Addreinne Frost-Treadwell and Jacqui Walmsley Trelowen Amelia At Frostisen (Bunny) was 3rd in AV Pastoral Veteran and VHC in the Veteran Stakes under Diane Stewart-Ritchie winning some treat money. Bunny lives with and is shown by Jacqui.
Some more clear eye tests Anne-Marie’s Penny and her litter sister Kerry & Fritz Frost, Addreinne Frost-Treadwell and Jacqui Walmsley Frostisen’s Blakk Zeta (Birdie). Born on the 16th of January 2022 they are by Ir Ch Leggatts Fernando From Frostisen x Ir Ch Kyon’s Dronningen Av Frostisen. Also, with a clear test Anna Engstad’s Wheatshade Brada Hill(ai)(Arven)born on 10th November 2022 she is by Trollheimens JR Made For Cascilius x Kata Syndattir Av Fjeldvidda At Wheatshade Imp NLD.
