NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Pastoral & Working day at The Ladies Kennel Association (LKA) All Breed Ch show was Thursday 11th December held at Bingley Hall on the Stafford County showground, most of you will remember it moved to Stafford from the NEC in 2023.Some did not like the move saying it was further away for them meaning an overnight stop ,but others preferred it with the high cost of carparking at the NEC and the fact that you had to get there at the crack of dawn to get anywhere near the entrance with all the breeds being crammed into two days , several halls were also used to fit in all the breeds and we always seemed to be in the ring furthest away. Now the show covers 4 days but that does mean for some exhibitors if the breed is on a weekday, they may not be able to get time off work. The parking at Stafford is free but there is a downside as much of it is on grass which can cause problems if it is very wet beforehand, storm Bram passed through a couple of days earlier and happily Thursday was dry and warm for the time of the year, compared with two years ago when it was freezing.
The show has always been popular for Christmas shopping and of course there were a number of decorated Christmas trees around the show to help everyone get into the festive spirit and this year the show also ran a Christmas Costume Competition each day. The Group Stewards looked out for ‘Christmas Outfits’ with the prize being free entry to next year’s show. The winner on the Thursday was the owner of a Smooth Collie.
We were in Ring 1 in the Sandylands Hall which is off the main hall, it does have a hard standing car park in front of it, although it gets full quite quickly. We were second in the ring after 40 Dogue De Bordeaux with judging starting at 9am.
Our judge Kevin Young was judging the breed for the 7th time, having last judged them at Crufts last year and before that in 2017 at NW&PBS. He gives CCs in 58 breeds across 5 groups; he also judged the Dog De Bordeaux. Judging started at lunch time and proved to be a day to remember for the breed with two new Champions gaining their crowns. BOB & BCC Ollie Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW(Inky) born on the 30th of April 2024 she has had a stunning show career so far, gaining her JW at just over a year and now is one of the youngest Champions we have had for some years. His first CC was at Crufts this year under Di Sterling where he was also BOB, his second at the club Ch show under Debbie Penniston Fleming where he was also BIS, he also has 2 RCCs. Another dog young dog having a great show career is Millie Lambert’s Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (Gunna)here winning his 3 RCC he gained his JW at just a few days after coming out of puppy and qualified for the JW Semifinal earlier this year, he is by Draccus Diamond Day O’ Buhcafrey x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee .BDP & BP Mary and David Dosson’s Kimura’s Ola Norman (Imp Nor) (Ola)born on 30th April this is his first Ch show having relatively recently arrived from Norway. He is by Dan /Nor Ch Kimura’s Kyrre x Dan/Nor Ch Kimura’s Froydis.BV Nancy Kent and Jacque and Michael Cobb’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall(Jamie) he has 23 CCs &18 RCCs and is by Ch/Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel. Penny was also VHC under Ernie Paterson in The Miss Churchill Memorial Open Stakes winning some treat money. Later in the day Jenny and Inky celebrated winning her crown by being shortlisted in the Group under Richard Kinsey. So, a fantastic day all round for the breed but must also mention the picnic at the benches which included Jenny’s handmade biscuits for the dogs. Hope you all have a great Christmas whether you stay at home or go travelling.
