NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
As I said in last week’s notes the club held its open show on 7th July in conjunction with Boston Ch show which was held for the first time on the Rutland Show ground, on the dates previously used by East of England Ch show. The Boston classes for the breed were due in after 73 Rough Collies & 5 Bouvier des Flandes, with the club show following. For me not a silly o’clock start as the show ground is just under a 3hr drive, although I did make a short detour to pick up Debbie. For both of us it felt weird with no dog to show, as a few days earlier I had found a lump on Time just behind his jaw, a visit to the vet who after a scan diagnosed an abscess probably caused by a grass seed or twig, it was drained and he is now on a long course of antibiotics to make sure the infection does not return. We arrived at Ruland just after 11am to find most exhibitors camped outside marquee 1 as the show was unbenched, and the marquee was full of cages and chairs with the exhibitors and dogs in the breeds before us. It was fine sitting in the sun chatting until it rained! Then everyone had to try and find a space in the marquee. I am sure you know by now I do not like unbenched shows for this very reason, although I fully understand why shows do it. We managed to find enough room for the dogs for the Boston classes, but not enough to set up the club show with a picnic table, trophy table & something for the raffle. Happily, at this point our lovely judge Penny Roberts came over, she gives CCs in Samoyeds ,German Spitz Klein & Mittel and last judged the breed at Paignton and District Fanciers Assoc Ch show in 2022 , we had a chat and she said she was not in hurry which gave us time for exhibitors in other breeds to move out, leaving us room to organise the club show in the corner of the marquee and decorate the ring with bunting of Norwegian flags. Lisa had brought a table for the picnic, and we manged to find a table for the trophies, although the raffle not for the first time ended up in a trolley! but it still managed to make £55.We started the show at 2.30pm much later than planned but by this time the marque was much clearer. I stewarded something I really enjoy, ably assisted by Debbie. Penny found her BD & BIS in Mary and Coralie Dosson’s Kligenthal Bran Mak(Teddy)RBD & RBIS Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Ch Kligenthal Almuric(Bergen)who is Teddy’s litter brother. BPD & BPIS Mary and Coralie’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby)who is Teddy son.BB & BOSIS Lisa and Alex Strong’s Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus(Eris) RBB Michael Patrick and Leigh Ashman’s Ch Tapui Starla (Freya) )BBP Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition (Franny) BVB & BVIS Jenny Shorer Ch Maidofcopper for Koromandel JW (Imp Fin) (Pikka)RBV Sue’s Knytshall Noor Ul Ain (Noor). At club shows we always have other classes the first of which was Brace, I think one of the best Brace classes we have had , with two wheaten and two black brace. Luckily the heavy rain we experienced had moved away, allowing Penny to make the exhibitors work hard by sending them round the ring twice, she said they were all far too good as she was expecting chaos! The winners were Marie and Adam’s brace followed by the Dosson’s the Crocker’s and last but not least the Strong’s. Winner of the class Special Bred By Exhibitor, Marie & Adam’s Mazads Nom De Plume (Dexter) Special Not Bred By, Marie & Adam’s Bergen. It was then time for the Trophy Challenges BJ & BY Dexter BPG Sue’s Leggatts Voulez Vous (Tissy)BL Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle) Best Special Working, Eris who was also Best Black. Trophies also of course also went to the main winners, thanks to our show manager Chris Maynard for sorting them out.Mary and Coralie had a very long day rising at 4am and not getting home before 10pm but I am sure their special day made it seem worthwhile.
Six days later on 13th July it was Working & Pastoral Breeds Ch show on The Three Counties showground Malvern. In July 21 it was among one of the first shows to take place after the pandemic, it was so hot it was difficult to keep the dogs cool, that was not a problem this year but even after all the rain of the past weeks the showing was outside. There of course there were wet rings behind the benches just in case! Our judge was Cath Moffat giving CCs for the first time, she also gives CCS in 7 Working & 13 Pastoral breeds, and last judged the breed at East of England in July 22. We were second in ring after 54 Australian Shepherds. It turned out to be a very good day for Jenny Shorer-Wheeler and her Koromandel Kennel. She entered her three and they all did her proud. BOB & DCC his 17th he also has 4CCs Jenny’s homebred Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW (ai)(Muchly), by Multi Ch Trollheimen JR Made For Cascilius x Sturtmoor Ffascination With Koromandel (Fable). He was later shortlisted in the Pastoral Group under Diana Spavin who judged the breed at Blackpool this year ,it is always good to have group judge who know the breed. BP & RDCC his 3rd Mary & Coralie Dosson’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby), he is by Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn (Teddy) x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain,(Noor). BCC Jenny’s Fable she is Muchly’s dam, and is by Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall(Jamie ) x Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva , this was her 2nd CC she also has 4RCCs. RBC her 8th she also has 7CCs Michael Patrick and Leigh Ashman’s Ch Tapui Starla (Freya) she also by Jamie x Ch Kimura’s Vera With Tapui (Imp Nor). BPB & BP Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition (Franny) who is Barnaby’s litter sister.BV Jenny’s Ch Maidofcopper for Koromandel JW (Imp Fin) (Pikka) she has 16CCS & 13RCCS and is by Gnipagrottans Qu x Fin Ch Cipacan Milla Magia, she was later VG4 under Marion Sargent who judged the breed at Manchester at the beginning of the year, great way of getting the breed better known.
