Breed Notes 19th Septemeber 2025 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

I must begin with an apology to Richmond Ch show, we all thought that they were moving to Stoneleigh next year but in fact it is not until 2027 when they will also be changing their date. They will be announcing this nearer the time, but for next year the show will be at Loseley Park with Pastoral day the 13th of Sept.

Our set of CCs at Richmond were taken away and given to us as a second club Ch show but one of them must be with a partner show. This year the partner show was Darlington which itself is an All-Breed Show, so exhibitors had the chance of winning two CCs in one day. Pastoral, Working and Terrier Day was Saturday 13th September. Our club show judge was Debbie Penniston Fleming (Ailort), this was her third time judging the breed the last time being at the National in 2022.Debbie started showing Belgian Shepherds in 1982 awarding CCs in the breed in 1988 and now gives CCs in 12 breeds. She had her first Buhund puppy in 2002 from the late Elisabeth Coloeupy with whom she was great friends, the puppy later became Ch Fullani Farek Of Ailort (SHCM).In 2012 Debbie brought in Am Ch Visions Dino at Tollheimen(Casper) on loan from Brenda Soloman in the US, with the idea of helping the gene pool and showing him , he had already been BOS at Westminster. He won the Pastoral Group at Driffield in 2012 and was BOB at Crufts in 2013 /14/15. He never went back to Brenda as she gave up breeding Buhunds, staying with Debbie and becoming a UK citizen. Although lightly shown as Debbie had and still has a very busy working life, he had 10 CCs. He is behind many of the dogs in the UK and US, and Debbie still has Buhunds and a Groenendael. The club show started in Ring 30 at 9.30am giving time to set up with bunting round the ring, and being at the end of the marquee there was room for tables for the Trophies, Raffle etc, and for cages, but even so without benches with a small numerical breed it is difficult to get everyone together unless you all arrive as the show opens. Thanks go to Jacque Cobb for sorting out and looking after the all the Trophies.

Sadly, at the last minute I could not go, so I would like to thank Lisa Strong for keeping me up to date with the results as they happened

The judge for Darlington main show should have been Kerry Frost but sadly a bout of covid and the after effects meant that family and friends felt it would not be sensible for her to travel from her home in Southern Ireland. The replacement judge was Robin Newhouse who gives CCs in 39 breeds across 3 groups and last judged the breed at Bath in 2023 and before that the club Ch show in 2021.The Buhund classes at Darlington followed the club show in the next ring after 46 Australian Shepherds and 14 Portuguese Water Dogs. Robin found his BOB and BCC her second she also has 2RCCs in Ollie Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW (Inky), she is by Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Knytshall Eloise. The weather was chilly and dry until midafternoon when there was down pour, but most of the judging was over by then.
