NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Pastoral and Working Day at the Welsh Kennel Club all breed show was the Saturday 16th August the third day of the four-day show, which also hosts 3 days of agility and Championship Obedience. It is held on the Royal Welsh Show Ground in Builth Wells, the town itself is a popular holiday destination in the middle of Wales with the river Wye nearby, dating back to before Roman times, so many exhibitors go for the whole show often camping which they can do on the showground from the Wednesday to the Monday , using it as part of their summer holiday .The Welsh Kennel Club itself was originally formed by the Prince Of Wales in 1896,the club faded out during the first world war and was not revived until 1967 by a few Kennel Club members who lived in Wales, and in 1968 the club was recognised by the KC and has held a Ch show every summer in Builth. When I first started showing some 30years ago the rings were all on grass in the main ring of the showground, and although the Royal Welsh show itself is held in July the society is very protective of the main ring and with variable summer weather, the rings are now mostly held in the cattle sheds and other buildings used to house stock during the show, there were though a few rings outside in collecting rings. The Buhunds were inside going in after 20 Hungarian Pulis, Mrs Terrie Counsins-Brown was our judge giving CCs in the breed for the first time, she also gives CCs in 13 other Pastoral Breeds. Jenny Shorer Wheeler was certainly right when she said it was a good day at the office for Koromandel and Knytshall Kennels, her home bred Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW SHCEX OSW (ai)(Muchly) was BOB winning his 22nd CC he also has 7RCCS and is by Trollheimens JR Made For Cascillus x Sturtmoor Ffacination With Koromandel. RCC his 17th Jacque & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall (Jamie), he also has 23CCs and was also BV he is by Ch/Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandle JW VW (Imp Fin)). BCC her first she also has 2RCCs was Jamie’s daughter, Ollie Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW she is x Knytshall Eloise RBCC. Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition (Franny)x Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain (Noor), Franny is handled by Jasmine Freeborn except in the challenge as she was handling the BVB Sue Crockers Leggatts Voules Vous she has 1 RCC and is by Ir Ch Frostisen Winsome (IKC) x Noor.
It was great to see that the show had provided a ramp, and there was also one in the group ring for Jenny and Muchly. Judging over it was time for a picnic at the benches, Jenny had made one of her fantastic cakes to celebrate Millie’s Lambert’s 2nd Group place at Paignton with Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (Gunna), the icing on the cake said ‘Gunna Don it!’. Jenny had a very busy show as she live streamed all the groups for Our Dogs and the finals of the heats for the Pup of The Year Stakes and the Eukanuba Champions Stakes on the Sunday, the winners will go forward to the finals next year. Millie took over the while Jenny was in the Pastoral Group.
The same day but the other side of the country Marie Corin took her home bred Mazada Nom De Plume (Dexter) to Huntingdonshire Canine Society Show held at the St Neots Rugby Club, the judging started at 10.00am and under Lynda Nicholas who was a last-minute replacement judge Dexter was BOB and then Group 3 under the same judge. Marie wasn’t sure the judge knew about Buhunds as they put out the table to start with! Luckily it was a lovely sunny day although a little windy, as there was no wet weather accommodation.
The next day Sarah Stonton headed to Attleborough Boxing Club in Norfolk with her Pixie (Wheatshade Snow Dreamer) for a scentwork Foundation Trial (first NNA level ) where Pixie attained an outside and a selection badge meaning that she now has 3 inside 3 outside and 3 selection badges so can move up to the next level Pre Entry. To gain a badge in Foundation 1 hide must be found in 2minutes for the inside and outside searches and for the selection 1 hide within 6 items in 1minute.
