NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
Terrier Working & Pastoral Day at Bournemouth Ch show was Monday 12th August which turned out to be the hottest days of the year so far, with temperatures in that part of the country well over 30degreess. I think it is the only Ch show now to have a Monday as a show day, apart from those that are held over Bank holidays. The show is held on their own ground at Pikes Farm near Poole in Dorset, no chairs, no benching and limited tenting but exhibitors can take gazebos. I have only been twice as it nearly always clashes with the KC agility Festival, which I helped at for many years. I went before it moved to Pikes Farm, no Buhunds so went with the Elkhound and Papillion again it was very hot, but a lovely show, I went again when it was at Pike’s Farm two years ago when they had breed classes and Time was BOB, they did have benches but a long way from the rings and no chairs, it was again very hot with very limited tenting over the rings. I do understand why shows need to cut down on their expenses, but one exhibitor described it as a ‘Poundland’ show, another said the tenting was better this year but without benches it is difficult for owners taking several dogs with everything they have to take in, for the dogs and themselves. I wonder how many entries shows lose that do not have benches, although of course some breeds do not use their benches. Will leave it there as you know my views on no benches! The breed was judged by Krystyan Greenland who give CCs in 2Working Breeds and 5 Pastoral Breeds. He last judged the breed at WELKS in 2022 but has also judged the breed at an open show. He found his BB & BOB in Michael Patrick and Leigh Ashman’s Ch Tapui Starla .RBB Anne Marie and David Taylor’s Frostisen Blakk Zitter .BP Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition .BV Sue’s Knytshall Noor Ul Ain. A little further north and east on Saturday August 17th Huntingdon Canine Society held its open show at the St Neots Rugby club, the Buhund judge was Marcia Dillion who gives CCs in Whippets, she found her BOB in Lisa and Alex Strong’s Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus (Eris) with their Draccus I Have A Dream(ai)(Raven) RBOB.
The following day it was up to mid Wales and the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells, for Working and Pastoral Day at the Welsh Kennel Club Ch all breed show, giving CCs in all the breeds that have them. The show also has Obedience and Agility and runs over 4 days with some exhibitors make a holiday of it, arriving on the Monday before the show starts with their caravans and tents and leaving the following Monday. There is also a show Dinner on the Friday evening which you can attend. Tony Allcock OBE the Chairman of the KC gave a speech at the Dinner which I watched as ‘Our Dogs ‘streamed it live. If you wish to watch it you can do so as it is on the Our Dogs FB page. It has been a tradition for over 50yrs for the Chairman of the Kennel Club to make a ‘State of the Nation’ speech at the Dinner, the title it was given when it first started and it has stayed the same ever since. When I started showing many of the Ch shows had dinners but over the years they stopped and now the Welsh KC one is the only survivor.
There were no benches and we were in Ring 1 in the South Glamorgan Building and were second in the ring after 25 Finnish Lapphunds .The breed judge was Jill Peak judging the breed for the 5th time, the last time being at Darlington in 2022 .She has judged all over the world and gives CCs in 130 breeds which I think is possible every breed that has them. She found her DCC & BOB in Jenny Shorer-Wheeler’s Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW (ai)Muchly. This was his 19th CC he also has 4RCCs, he is homebred by Multi Ch Trollheimen JR Made For Cascilius x Sturtmoor Ffascintaion With Koromandel. RDCC his 4th he has only been lightly shown, Konner Owens Leggatts Night Fever (Kuma) handled as usual by Millie Pentland, he is by Sturtmoor Floki x Leggatts Voulez Vous. BPD & BP Mary & Coralie Dosson’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby), he is by Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain. BCC her first which thrilled her owner and breeder Sue Crocker and handler Jasmine Freeborn, Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle), it was exactly 2yrs since she won her RCC at the same show, she is Kumar’s litter sister .RBCC her 5th Jenny -Shorer-Wheeler’s Sturtmoor Ffascintaion With Koromandel. She also has 2CCs and is Muchly’s dam she is by by Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall x Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva she also has 3RCCs. BPB Sue Crockers Leggattts Superstition (Franny) she is Barnaby’s litter sister.
Muchly was also third in the God Citizen Stakes under Del Richards winning some treat money and was later PG4 under Caroline Friend- Ress, both judges give CCs in the breed so know the breed. Definitely a good day at the office for Jenny and Muchly, congratulations.
