Breed Notes 24th July 2026 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

The club Open Show was held in conjunction with Evesham Premier Open show which also has Buhund classes and is held on the same venue as NW& PBS Ch show held the day before, meaning that exhibitors had the chance to attend three shows over the weekend all at the same venue, The Three Counties Showground in Malvern. Those not living   locally stayed overnight and some just came for Evesham and the club show. It was hot but I gather a good breeze and the shade of some trees kept things bearable, also the Three Counties committee who own the ground relaxed the rule on no tents or gazebos, but these had to on certain areas. Our judge was Dr Elisabeth Ahscroft who is a Level 2 for Buhunds. The dogs were judged first, while Jackie MacKenzie who was the judge for the Evesham Buhund classes, judged Beardies, not the usual way of doing things, but the idea was to judge as many dogs before the heat of the day really kicked in, as it was to predicate to be over 30degrees again.  BPD Chris & Bridget Curnow’s Draccus Yin (Magnus).BD Jenny Shorer -Wheelers Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk (ai) JW ShCEx OSW (Muchly). RBD Millie Lambert’s Sturmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (Gunna) who had gained his crown the day before at NW&PBS. Best Black dog was Magnus. The Evesham classes were then judged with the results in last week’s notes July 17th. The club bitch classes then followed with BB Sue Crocker & Jasmine Freeborn’s Leggatts Superstition (Franny). RBB BVB & Best Black Bitch the same owners Leggatts Voulez Vous (Tissy). Both Franny and Tissy are x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain and Sue said Tissy is from her from her first litter and Franny her last both with different sire’s.

BIS was then judged with Muchly BIS Gunna RBIS Franny BOS Magnus BP Tissy BVIS & Black Best. RBVIS was Jenny Shorer -Wheeler’s Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel (Pikka).

Thanks to Jenny’s organisation the show finished at lunch time before the worst of the heat. Thanks to Lorraine Bolton for Stewarding and Jacque Cobb for overseeing all the Trophies and Chris Maynard for organising the Raffle which made £44.79, which as Chris said was good considering there were quite a few absentees.

In last week’s notes I said that Millie Lambert’s home bred Sturmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (Gunna) had gained his final points for his Show Certificate of Excellence (ShCEx) and Open Show Winner (OSW)at Evesham Premier Show, born on 2nd April 2024 he is by Draccus Diamond Day O’ Buhcafrey x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee. He now joins only 3 other  Buhunds with the same such awards, the first was Neil Hood’s Ch Arnscroft Di Nah Sawr Us Rex VW ShCM(Dino) bred by Di Stirling he was born on 19th July 2011 by Ch Arnscroft Kimura x Ch Arnscroft Di-Nahs -Mite, the second Buhund is Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Ch Kligenthal Almuric ShCEx (Bergen) bred by Lesley Butterworth he was born on 12th September 2019 by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel JW ShCM x Ch Koromandel Gild The Lily. Then Jenny Shorer-Wheelers home bred Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk(ai) JW ShCEx OSW born on 3rd May 2021 he is by Trollheimens JR Made For Cascilius x Ch Sturtmoor Fascination With Koromandel.

The following weekend the temperature had returned to more or less normal for the summer. Dorset County Canine Society Open Show was held on Sunday 19th July at Farmers Palmers Organford, Jacqui Walmsley told me it was a real old-fashioned show held on a farmer’s field with ropes round the rings. No Buhund classes but AVNSC Pastoral with judge Mark Johnson awarding 2nd in Open and 2nd in AV Pastoral Champion to Anne -Marie and David & Mary Taylor’s Ir Ch Frostisen Blakk Zitter (Penny), and Jacqui Walmsley and the Frostisen Kennel’s Trelowen Amelia at Frostisen (Bunny) winning AV Pastoral Veteran which qualified her for BVIS.

I finish with the sad news that two Buhunds have gone to play over the Rainbow Bridge. Sue and Ken Bowe’s Tokyn Douglas Among Ekusen (Yoda) at the good age of 15yrs, he was bred by Jacqui Avery Martin born on 15th November 2011 by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Tokyn Maple. Joining him Katherine Hickey’s Knytshall Black Jiro (Jiro) bred by Jacque& Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent he was born on 6th January 2015 by Blakk Extacy V.Koekie’s Ranch (Imp NLD) x Ch Trelowen Veryan.
