NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Qualifying heats for the Junior Warrant Competition which is for dogs aged between 6-18month that have gained their Junior Warrant, took place at designated open shows from May to August this year, the competition is now in its 23rd year. If you qualify in a heat then there is a semifinal which this year was on 18th October held at the Kennel Club building Stoneleigh, this used to be held with Discover Dogs at the Excel. The 12 dogs that go through from the Semis compete in the final on the Thursday of Crufts next year. It was fantastic that Millie and Gunna aka Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW qualified for the semis at his first attempt at the Thame & Oxfordshire County Canie Society show under Darren Clarke. The judge for Millie’s heat at the semi’s was Andrew Stewart he gives CCs in every breed in the Toy Group and 7 in the Utility Group. Millie and Gunna did not go through, but it was fantastic to have a Buhund qualifying who had to first of all gain a JW then qualify at a heat so a fantastic result just to get to the semis. Thanks to Our Dogs for live streaming the competition.
Back to the previous weekend and the same day as South Wales Ch show but in Haynes in Bedfordshire Sarah Stonton’s Jack aka as Ch Arnscroft In Di Ana Jack L8Ex RL2 was 4th in a Level 9 Scentwork UK Trial, and the following day Jack’s daughter Pixie aka Wheatshade Snow Dreamer L4 Ex qualified at a Level 5 at Sandridge Hertfordshire, she is catching her dad up fast.
The following day Sunday Oct 12th but further south Portsmouth & Southsea Kennel Association held its Open Show at Havant Leisure Centre in Havant Hampshire. The Buhund judge was Delphine Richards she found her BOB in Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Bergen aka Ch Kligenthal Almuric (SHCEX) handled by Neil Hood who said he had to make a long and exhausting commute to the show (he lives 5 miles away)! RBOB Sue Crocker’s C Leggatts Jive Talkin. Marie, said it always good to support open shows with breed classes and with 5 Buhunds present that is good turn out for a numerically small breed at an open show, enough I hope to keep them giving us classes.
Just a reminder now that Autumn is here about Canine Seasonal Illness (SCI),although the numbers have declined dramatically since 2010 it is still around and recently a dog went down with it having been walked in woods in Sandringham in Norfolk .The cause is unknown and there is no cure, the main symptoms are vomiting and tiredness after being walked in a wooded area. Of course, there are many causes of these symptoms but is there is any chance they could be caused by SCI please contact your vet as soon as possible.
The RVC in collaboration with Battersea Dogs & Cats home has launched a nationwide survey to explore how canine behaviour impacts on lives of dog’s owners and their families. They are calling for adult UK based dog owners to take part in the survey, and the researchers hope the insights gathered will help veterinary professionals, and canine behaviour experts and animal welfare organisations and charities provide better support for owners and their pets. From a drop-down box you state which breed including all the poos xs you have. Three guesses, no you will only need one as to which breed they do not have listed! I have commented will they listen? I doubt it!
Westbury and District Canine Society was founded in 1985 and is registered with the RKC as a general canine society. On the evening of 8th October, they had a Good Citizen Testing Evening, and congratulations go to Sue Crocke and her home bred Leggatts Superstition (Franny) who passed her Bronze Test, the assessor was John West.
