Norwegian Buhunds
As I reported in last week’s breed notes our AGM and very successful club Ch show was held on 12th April at Bearley Village Hall.
The AGM was held inside and started just after 9.30am. One of the main items as always is the election of Officers and committee, these stayed the same. Kirsty Irvine Chair, Debbie Deuchar Vice Chair, Jenny Shorer Wheeler Secretary, Lesley Butterworth Membership Sec and Chris Maynard Treasurer, Chris produced a very detailed account of where we had made money and lost money last year. Committee members are Jacque Cobb who does a fantastic job as Trophy Steward ,Sue Crocker who runs the Breed Rescue, Lisa Strong who is in charge of Discover Dogs decorating the booth with numerous photos of the breed and then taking them down and storing all the items ,also making sure there are new photos and pamphlets when needed. Lillian Rumsey who does sterling work producing Bu news and myself as Breed Health Co-Ordinator and writer of Our Dogs Breed notes and Blog for the club website. Our Patron is Roger Thomas and life members Chris Chapman, June Purves and Anne Smith who runs and maintains the club website. You should have all received your Bu news by now, please read it carefully as there is a piece by Anne about her plans to redesign the website and how she needs members’ help in keeping up to date. Kirsty’s chairman’s report is also in Bu News and at the AGM she also mentioned the fantastic lunch and day out we had at the RKC, where we were also shown some of the breed history ,this is so important with our 60th Anniversary coming up in 2027. The dates are 19th/20th June when we will be having one of our Ch show with a Norwegian judge who is already booked ,so save the date. There will also be various other activities but now the date is booked we have time to arrange all the other events. The committee had been looking into various venues but by the end of the day it was decided that the best venue would be Bearley Village Hall, it would have been nice to have a slightly larger hall in case it is raining but it has so many good points compared with other halls that we had looked at .Members at the AGM also congratulated Lisa on being the first member to become a judge through the new KC JEP system, and is now on the ‘KC Find A Judge’ website as a Level 2 judge .In AOB Lucy Gilbert mentioned ‘Spitz In The Park ‘ which runs from 18th -20th July held in Bretford Village Hall CV23 03Z, they have a various dog events, dog shows, eye testing, Good Citizen with a pub quiz in the evening. It would be nice to have a Buhund presence, they raise money for Charities.
AGM over the Trophies for last year’s points winners were given out ,there is a list of these in Bu News. The trophies were also given for this year’s Crufts winners BCC & BOS went to Sue Crocker’s Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle) who was handled by Jasmine Freeborn ,but unfortunately Jenny and David Langford thought that the show was on the Sunday so were not there to collect the Trophy for Frostisen Zeffer who was DCC and BOB. The best Puppy trophy was given to Cheryl Denham Horton at Crufts for her and Lorraine Bolton’s Tapui Haraldsson at Jjavacobe.
We also had a raffle with some great goodies on offer, this was presided over by Chris Maynard and her husband, who had a card reader which was great as I had managed to leave all my change at home and still can’t find it. The raffle made the princely sum of £163 .84p there were 165 tickets sold but the card reader deducted a small amount. We also had the club shop and Lucy Gilbert brought the Amber Marie Studio stand with various Buhund related items including clothing, with the club getting a percentage of things sold.
In the lunch break we had the Special Award Classes(SAC); these are for judges to gain experience judging the breed, there can be 3 classes and are completely separate from the main show. Our judge was Del Richards, she gives CCs in 4 breeds and is a Level 2 Buhund judge. Winner of open dog was Millie lambert’s home bred Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It. The Open bitch winner was Jenny’s Sturtmoor Ffascination With Koromandel, with the Champion Dog / Bitch class winner being Lesley and Liz Butterworth’s Ch Koromandel Gild Th Lily. Before I finish reporting on the AGM and Show I have a couple of thank-yous, Nancy Kent for sorting out all the food in the kitchen, and Sam Guillod -Rees for being a super photographer throughout the day. It was a very enjoyable day spent in the warm spring sunshine and in great company.
After Crufts Frostisen Zeffer(Loki) went over to Eire with Addrienne Frost Treadwell and Anne Marie Taylor with Frostisen Blakk Zitter, who is Zeffer’s litter sister for a couple of shows over the St Patrick’s day weekend, with the result that for the first quarter of the year the Frostisen Kennel is topping the breeders in FCI Group 5 along with an Alaskan Malamutes Kennel, and Zeffer is top dog and Zitter top bitch. Zitter whose pet name is Penny was 2nd in open bitch at the club show .
I hope you all had a good Easter holiday .
