NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

The Royal Cheshire County Show has hosted a dog show for several decades which has now grown into one of the largest 2 day Premier dog shows in the area ,with 1018 classes and a Junior Warrant Qualifying Heat .The show is held on its own showground in Tabley Knutsford Cheshire and dates back to 1838 ,and this year celebrated a milestone as it is 10 since it received its Royal title. Pastoral Day was Tuesday 16th June with our own Marie Corin holding centre stage, she found her BB & BOB in Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil at Tapui (Imp Aus)(Bodi) she was later shortlisted in the Pastoral Group under Frank Whyte, BD & RBOB Jacque & Michael Cobb and Nancy Kent’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall(Jamie) ).Kirsty said as the show was part of the Agricultural show it was fun to wander round and look at other things, there was even an egg show ,which made it a great day out .

Staying in the north Pastoral/Terrier Day at Blackpool was Sunday 21st June, the show has had several homes but has now settled at Redwood Park Inskip Nr Preston, it has also had a number of weather problems in the past but not this year. For many years the late Elisabeth Coleopy and I would have a weekend away in Blackpool, I would take the Papillion ,Elkhound and two Buhunds, with Elizabeth of course taking her Buhunds, in the evenings the dogs would love a run on the beach and into the sea at St Anne’s, sadly those days are long gone. This year Tom Johnston was the judge with the results being the same as the Royal Cheshire County Show with BB & BOB Kirsty’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil at Tapui (Imp Aus)(Bodi) & BD & BV Jacque & Michael and Nancy’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall(Jamie)

Somewhat further afield in fact much further afield in Norway to be precise there were 3 shows. Mary Dosson tells of her trip she and husband David made to them with Ola (Kimura’s Ola Norman) ,who they imported last from Norway, and they thought it would d be nice to take him back for a visit and take in the 3 shows at the same time, the trip proved to be a great success as Ola became a Norwegian Junior Champion He was born on the 30th April 2025 bred by the Kimura Kennel of Kathrine Lindstrom, he is by N DKN UCH NJr CH NV-24 OSLV-24 KIMURA’S Kyrre x C.L.B N DK SE UCH NJV-20 NV-23 Kimura’s Froydis.‘ Mary wrote we left the UK on Monday June 8th after first visiting the vets in Bristol for the necessary paper work and wormer, arriving at Le Shuttle just before midnight, we caught the 1.00am train to Calais and drove through France, Belgium ,the Netherlands ,Germany and Denmark arriving in time to catch the overnight boat on Tuesday to Norway. We decided to leave the boat in Bergen so we could see some more of the country, Bergen was stunning and we stayed in a beautiful wooden lodge overlooking the bay. Thursday morning, we drove over the mountains to Oslo, very dramatic scenery with snow still on the roadside. Friday 12th was our first show the Nordic Exterior Exhibition with Oslo Winner where Ola won his first CAC(CC),the second show on the Saturday was the International Exterior Exhibition with Norsk winner 2026 and the third show on the Sunday was an International show run by the Norsk Kennel Club where he won his third CAC and was also BOB. He was graded excellent at all three shows winning red rosettes. We had already booked our ferry home in the early hours of the Wednesday, so had to leave before the group. The showing system is very brutal, there were some stunning dogs who won their class but were only graded very good with a blue rosette so were not allowed to progress to the next round, each grade has a different colour rosette. Apparently you can also receive a number of different awards one of which is apparently was really difficult to get but Ola did .We struggled with our lack of Norwegian and it is going to take a while to find out what else he obtained .Ola was happy and appeared to enjoy the experience and that is that is what is most important. We would like to thank Kathrine and Andreas for all their help and encouragement.’ Thank you so much Mary many congratulations and what an amazing long drive but so worth it.

To show what a great achievement this was I looked up how to become a Junior Norwegian Champion: the dog must be 9-15months and must achieve three certificates from 3 different judges with at least one certificate obtained at a show arranged by the NKK or a show where the bred club is given permission to award a certificate.
