Breed Notes 27th December 2024 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and that everything worked out for you whether you stayed at home, travelled to family or friends or went on longer travels .Now I wish you all a Very Happy New Year, and with the shortest day behind us, perhaps we can start to think about Spring ,although I know it still seems a long way off at the moment, but it will soon be Manchester Ch show and then Crufts.

Pastoral Day at LKA was Friday 13th December, the weather was very gloomy and damp, but at least no sign of the high winds and heavy rain of the previous weekend .We were in ring 3 in the Argyle Hall and 2nd in the ring after 21 Mastiffs, going in at 10am. Last year the show moved from the NEC where it had been as long as I can remember to Stafford County Showground. It is closer from some and further away for others including us, but I much prefer it, as with the NEC with all the breeds crammed into 2 days the parking was a nightmare, you had to be there at the crack of dawn to get anywhere near the halls, then when you were in ,we always seemed to be in the hall furthest away. With this being David and my first show since Leeds as David had a sudden serious illness and a stay in hospital, I decided that we would go up the evening before and stay in a hotel in Stafford that had been recommended to me by a friend in Elkhounds. The hotel took dogs and even had a small restaurant for guests with dogs. There was one problem, finding it ! with many one-way streets and roads closed, my sat nav after taking me to the wrong place twice, said you are on your own ! However, the people who live in Stafford are lovely and two in particularly were very helpful in assisting me to locate the hotel, once there it was very Christmassy, I lost count of how many decorated trees there were, and the food was great and the next morning it was only a 15mins drive to the showground. Once there it was lovely to see everyone again, especially Cheryl Denham-Horton and husband Paul who I have not seen for years, when she had her homebred Ch Olpenden D’Zimba who had the breed record for some years, and I had Ch/Int Ch Fullani Flekkefjord.

Our judge was Howard Ogden giving CCs in the breed for the first time, he awards CCs in 99 breeds across all the groups. Before I tell you about the winners, I must comment on the two lovely puppy classes, three dog puppies and seven bitch puppies all from three litters, I do not think any of us can remember seeing so many lovely puppies before at a show. BOB & DCC his 21st he also has 5RCCs Jenny Shorer -Wheelers homebred Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW (ai)(Muchly),he is by Multi Ch JR Made For Cascilius x Sturtmoor’s Ffascination With Koromandel. RDCC his 4th Mary & Coralie Dosson’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby), He also won the Good Citizen class. He is by Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain, this was his first time in Junior. Best BPD Cheryl Denham -Horton & Lorraine Bolton’s Tapui Haraldsson At Jjavacobe (Hogan) he is by Nor Ch Kimura’s Harlad Harfagre x Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui . BCC her 7th she also has 4RCCS Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Imp Aus) (Bodi), Hogan’s dam and the lady from down under. This was only her second show this year as she has been on maternity duty, those of you who are club members will have received your Bu news where Kristy writes about her travels to Norway with Bodi to meet her intended Harry(Nor Ch Kimura’s Harlad Harfagre), this liaison produced both the Puppy dog and Bitch puppy winner here so worth all the travelling . Bodi is by Aus Ch Kyon’s Urban Legend x Nor/Aus Ch Rennedal’s Brynhild Skjoldmoy. BV &RBCC her 5th she also has 4CCs Lesley and Liz Butterworth Ch Koromandel Gild The Lily (Hildy), she is by Ch/Can Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel JW. Best BP & BPIB Kirsty Irvine’s homebred Tapui Herja (Hari) litter sister to Hogan who at a later date will follow her dam’s trip in reverse ,going to live down under with Bodi’s breeder Roberta Crouch. Best Special Beginner’s Ollie Shorer’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel(Inky) by Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall x Knytshall Eloise. Later Muchly was 3rd in the Any Variety Working/ Pastoral Dog /Bitch Good Citizen Dog Scheme class winning some nice treat money, the judge was Martin Sanders. He also judged the LKA Junior Stakes awarding 3rd place to Millie Lambert’s home bred Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It (Gunna) by Draccus Diamond Day ‘O’ Bucafrey x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free ‘N’ Eezee .Not to out done by the boy, Inky was 4th in The Ferelith Somerfield Memorial Any Variety Working /Pastoral Puppy Bitch Stakes under judge Mike Gadsby.

Of course, we had our usual picnic at lunch time with everyone bringing various contributions savoury and sweet, a special mention has to go to Lisa Strong for her home baked mince pies and meringues they were delicious, and to Jenny for the equally delicious Buhund themed cake.

Thank you for all your contributions over the last year, they are your notes, I just write about what you and your Buhunds do, so please keep it all coming, whatever the activity.
