NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
I cannot believe we are almost at the end of the summer, for me it has not been that enjoyable for much of the time because of the intense heat, at least some of you have had rain now but at the moment we have only had a couple of very light showers, although I believe we are promised more before the end of the month.
Welsh Kennel Club Ch show was held at its usual venue of The Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells. It is an All-Breed show having all the breeds that have CCs and all the Rare Breeds, they also have Championship Obedience, Championship Agility and General Agility classes. For a number of years, it has run over 4 days, but this year went back to 3days with 2 groups on the Friday 3 on the Saturday Pastoral, Terrier and Working and 2 on the Sunday, I assume it was to save costs as they have already done away with benching. They were very slick with their groups, they had Special Beginners, the Main group, Puppies and Veterans, all but the main group were prejudged but all had their time in the big ring which is nice as it has to be one best BIS rings there is, the winners all going out to the playing of ‘We Are The Champions’. They also saved time but not taking any photos in the ring they were all taken on the very attractive photo area. Even on the Friday after all the three groups, they still manged to finish by 7pm.
I think our secretary Jenny Shorer -Wheeler needs a medal for endurance, on the Thursday before WKC she returned from a week’s holiday in Canada, packed the van and headed off on the Friday to arrive at WKC in time to do the livestreaming for Our Dogs which she did for all three days, and showed Inky on the Saturday as well! Happily, the weather had cooled down from the week before but as you would expect with a English summer, Jenny said on the Friday afternoon as the groups went in it was even a little chilly and then for a while there was torrential rain, not so good for all those that were camping and in tents. It has always been a very popular show for people who want to take a holiday in Wales and take in show at the same time, this also makes for a good atmosphere at the end of the day watching there groups as people are not rushing to get home. Happily, the weather improved and it was a dry sunny weekend.
We were third in ring 33 after 50 dogs, our judge was the very well know all-rounder Jeff Horswell, I am not going to tell you how many breeds he gives CCs in; it would probably be easier to tell you the breeds he does not give CCs in. This was his seventh time of judging the breed, the last time was at SKC in May 24 and before that at Leeds July 21. It is nice to have a judge that knows the breed but with a numerically small breed that has a long showing career, it can cut down the number of entries, as those that have CCs under them with not go under them again except at Crufts and the club Ch show. He found his BOB & DCC his 5th in Millie Lambert’s Ch Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW (SHCEX)(OSW)(Gunna), he is by Draccus Diamond Day O’ Buhcafrey x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free’n Eezee, he also has 3RCCs.BCC her 6th Ollie Wheeler’s Ch Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW (Inky),her first CC was at WKC last year she is by Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Knytshall Eloise she also has 4RCCs.The RCC’s went to litter brother and sister the DRCC his 3rd he also has 3CCs Jenny and David Langford’s Ch/Ir Ch/Int Ch Frostisen Zeffer (Loki) he is by Ir Ch Leggatts Fernando From Frostisen (Imp UK) x Ir Ch Kyon’s Dronningen Av Frostiend (Imp Can). RBCC her 6th she also has a CC Ann-Marie Taylor, David & Mary Taylor’s Ir Ch Frostisen Blakk Zitter (CW26) (Penny). Loki was also Reserve in the Eukanuba Champion Stakes winning a Eukanuba Food Voucher, the judge was Mr A Gjetnes from Norway. BP his 6th he also has a RCC was Bridget & Chris Curnow’s Draccus Yin (Magnus) by Ch Tapui Haraldsson at Jjavacobe x Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus , he was later shortlisted in the Puppy Group under Lorraine Bolton, while being handled by Ann-Marie Taylor. BV Sue Crocker & Jasmine Freeborn’s Knytshall Noor Ul Ain (Noor) she has 1 CC & 4RCCs and is by Knytshall Diamond Ted x Ch Trollheimen Elske To Knytshall Imp USA. Addreinne Frost Treadwell travelled over on Friday evening from Ireland to handle Loki, she had been attending the Munster Circuit which holds a number of Championship shows held over a week in Southern Ireland she told me. ‘There was a really small circuit this year the only shows with Buhund entries were Killarney and Limerick. Ir Ch Trelowen Aviator at Frostisen Jnr Ch (AV1) (Maggit) was graded excellent and was BOB at Killarney under judge J Ms C Mellin, Maggit is getting on for 10 now and was tired on Tuesday evening so I did not take him to Limerick where Ir Ch Frostisen You Win Again was graded very good as she is in serious state of undress for judge Van Den Berg.’! Addreinne then caught the ferry from Rosslare to Wales to make it in time to show Loki.’
I love watching the groups while sitting in my living room, many thanks to Our Dogs for the live streaming, Jenny always makes a very good commentator as she does the write ups for the Ch shows in ‘Our Dogs’ and knows many of the dogs, their pet names and how successful some of them have been. While watching the groups it was lovely to see Chris John’s Portuguese Water Dog Ankors Fraser River among Cristakell (Chance) win the puppy working group handled by daughter Char. I am sure most of you know that they both CCs in Buhunds and have had Buhunds for many years but are best known for their Alaskan Malamutes.
