NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Discover Dogs is so important for numerically small breeds such as ours, it is the only way people who do not own a dog or if they do but do not show or take part in dog activities can find out about the breed. Over the years through DD and Bu Bumbles a number of people have learnt about the breed and often become owners, The London version used to be great, people would come one day and come back again the next to see the breeds that they were interested in, yes some came to have their doggy fix but many were actually looking to have a dog perhaps not instantly but in the future. Losing the London version had an impact and there never seemed to be the same interest at Crufts DD, however I am very happy to say that this year that changed and there seemed to be a definite interest, followed up by a number wanting to join the Forum to learn more about the breed and enquiring about puppies. Having done DD for many years in the past I know how tiring it is for owners and dogs a like. Many many thanks to all those who manned the breed booth over the four days ,as it is so tiring where possible there was a morning and afternoon shift. Special thanks also go to Lisa Strong who with the help of husband Alex not only decorates the booth but also takes it down and looks after everything and makes sure everything is up to date with new photos and handouts, she also manned the booth on the first day and after judging on the last day, with her and Ales’s Draccus I Have A Dream( Raven )and her dam Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus(Eris) both of which are black and Loki who is wheaten, it always good to have both colours if possible. Loki started it all for Lisa having met me some years ago at DD in London, having discovered she had a Buhund I suggested she joined the club which she did, and Loki became a member of our Obreedience team, and the rest is history as they say. She is now a committee member and has bred two litters. Also helping on the Thursday was Kelcey Paterson who has Sturtmoor God Of The Sky (Apollo),she had planned to take Apollo but as he is still a puppy Kelcey felt perhaps he was not quite ready to meet his adoring public. Friday saw Nancy Kent helping Jacque Cobb with Knytshall Love In The Mist (Misty)and her dam Knytshall Elosie, and representing the wheatens were Ch Kligenthal Almuric SHCEX) (Bergen)and his son Mazads Nom De Plume(Dexter )with owners Marie Corin and Adam Camm. On Saturday it was Andrea and Andy Platt accompanied by Mazada Joie de Vivre (Luna) who is Dexter’s litter sister that welcomed visitors along with Dr Jo Guillod Rees and daughter Bethany with Draccus Obsidian At Bucamereru(Ruby)who is black ,Penny & Tom Glibbery with Rikarlo Grant (Indy)and Tapui Haldis (Daisy) along with Daisy’s breeder Kirsty Irvine with Ch Kimura’s Vera With Tapui (Imp Nor)(Betty)and Betty’s son Tapui Let’s Blaze (Blaze).Sunday was breed day with Sue and Paul Martin with Wolfen Dances With Wolves (Ulfie) and Wheatshade Crystals Of Ice(Freya) holding the fort along with Sue Croker with Leggatts Voulez Vous(Tissy)who is black and Leggatts Superstition(Franny), Keir Jones and Bob Senoj and family with Frostisen Yenga(Otto). When the judging was over Lisa & Alex returned to the booth with Eris,Raven and Loki to finish the day and pack everything away .Eris also had a clear eye test at Crufts she is by Ir Ch Frostisen Winsome IKC x Knytshall Noor Ul Ain.

Exeter & County Canine Society held its 100th Anniversary Open Show at Exeter Livestock Centre Matford Exeter on Saturday 15th March, where under judge Juliet Cooper Millie Lambert’s Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It (Gunna)was Best AVNSC puppy and Puppy Group 3, meaning that he now only needs 5 more Junior Warrant points, which is fantastic as he is not out of puppy till 2nd April, and he can still gain JW points in Junior. The next day Millie and Gunna headed off to Oswestry& District Kennel Association open show, held at The Agricultural Showground near Oswestry Shropshire, the judge was Heidi Thomas ,no JW points but a very respectable 2nd in AVNSC puppy behind the puppy that went onto be BPIS, and a 3rd in a good Puppy Stakes class winning a small amount of treat money.

Mary Dosson told me that her and husband David’s Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn (Teddy) and her and daughter Coralie’s Leggatts Part Time Lover (Barnaby), have both gained their Siver Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme award at the Little Orchard Dog Training Academy. Congratulations, I am sure it will not be long before I am writing about them gaining their Gold award. The academy is based near Weston Super- Mare in Somerset and has been running since 2002 and offers all levels of KC awards from puppy up to Gold level and also train for KC Rally, Hoopers and Agility.

Don’t forget the Club AGM and Ch show are on Saturday 12th April. Details of the show and venue are in files on the Norwegian Buhund Forum, or contact Jenny Shorer-Wheeler .
