Breed Notes 29th October 2021 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

The club held its first Ch show for 2 yrs on Saturday 23rd October at Shirland Village Hall in Derbyshire.

The KC had told clubs that could not have a Ch show in 2020 due to the pandemic that they could have two Ch shows this year, but one would have to be with a partner show, we felt that with a very busy show calendar from when shows opened again at the end of June, that it would be better to have two Ch shows next year, also allowed by the KC. So next year we will have a spring Ch show with WELKS and our own standalone Ch show in October.

One of the lovely things about writing these notes is that I can document those special memorable days Buhund owners, and their dogs have, whether it be at a show or at any of the other Buhund activity, often it happens when least expected.

Our judge for the Ch show was Robin Newhouse (Annecy Samoyeds) he is approved by the KC to judge the Pastoral and Working Groups and BIS at Championship Level, he judged the Pastoral Group at Crufts in 2017 and our open show in 2018.

A few days before the show Anne Smith had told me she had entered both of her dogs in the show but was not sure she would make it, as she had to go down to the south coast for a few days to help a family member. I know that she had an awful journey home on the Friday, but I am sure she is very pleased she made it to the show, as she had certainly had one of those memorable days, with her Ch Arnscroft Never Say Die (Oskar) winning his 8th CC and then going BIS (he also has 4RCCs),he is by Am Ch/Ch Visions Dino of Trollheimen x Arnscroft Di Sing On Ice. RBIS & RDCC his 13th Nancy Kent, Jacqui& Michael Cobb’s Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall (Jamie) by Am/Can/Uk Ch Kyon’s Bold Norseman x Ch Maidofcopper for Kormandel JW (Imp Fin) (Pikka) he also has 11 CCS, he was handled as usual by his breeder Jenny Shorer- Wheeler. BOS & BCC her 9th Jenny’s Pikka she also has 12 RCCs and is by Nor Ch Gnipagrottens Qu x Swe /Fin Ch Cipacan Mila Magia. RBCC her 2nd Kirsty Irvine’s Ch Kimura’s Vera With Tapui (Imp Nor) (Betty), she also has 3CCs she is by Multi Ch Kimura’s Per Gynt x Nor Ch Kimura’s Nelly. BPIS Michael Patrick’s Tapui Starla she by Jamie x Betty. RBPIS Kirsty & Alex Irvine & Callum Gillies Tapui Let’s Blaze litter brother to Starla. BVB Anne Smith’s Kimura’s Tyra at Arnscoft she is by Kimura’s Basil x Nor Ch Kimura’s Leonora.BVD & BVIS Nancy, Jacqui and Michael’s Knytshall Diamond Ted he has a CC and is by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Sawr Us Rex VW ShCM ShCEx x Ch Trelowen Veryan At Knytshall RL1. RBVIS and Special Vintage Veteran B Trelowen Andrea she has a CC and 2 RCCs and is by Ch Trelowen Conar Tun x Trelowen Koo.

Being a Breed Ch show we also have a Working Dog class, to enter this the dog must have competed in a KC activity such a Rally,Obreedience or have a Good Citizen Test, the winner goes forward to the Challenge if not beaten in another class .The Bitch winner was Pikka and the dog winner Jamie .We also have ‘Best of Awards’, who receive a Trophy and very nice rosette. Starla was BJ and BY as well as BP.BPG was Mary Dosson’s Kligenthal Bran Mak Morn (Teddy) he has a RCC and is by Ch Arnscroft Di Na Mo Farrah of Koromandel JW ShCM. BL Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Kligenthal he is litter brother of Teddy and also has an RCC. Best Black from all Blacks not beaten by another Black. Knytshall Eloise handled by Alysha Branchflower she is by Blakk Exstacy Von Koekie’s Ranch (Imp NLD) x Ch Trollheimen Elske To Knytshall. The brace class was won by Millie Lamberts Brace who were Sturtmoor’s Eezee Luvva by Mo x Sturtmoor’s Dream Maker at Gazenorth & Ch Strutmoor Free’N’Ezee she has 3CCs and a RCC she is by Jamie x Eezze. Special Not Bred By Exhibitor Maddy Norman’s Ch Arnscroft Delilah at Veekay she has 5CCs & 6RCCs she is by Ch Arnscroft Di To Be A Sailor x Ch Arnscroft Di Or Comply. Progeny Group. Jamie.

We also had 3 Special Award Classes judged by Toni Jackson (Elbereth) who has the well-known kennel of Finnish Lapphunds. She awards CCs in a number of breeds and has judged abroad on numerous occasions. The three SAC classes are not part of the main show but are held to give exhibitors more classes with a different judge, and to help the judge have more hands-on experience for the required number of dogs to move up the judging ladder. The winner of the OD class was Oskar. OB Eloise. Ch Dog or Bitch which had the fantastic entry of nine Champions, was won by Jamie.

We also had a puppy walk for puppies over 4 months with both judges going over the puppies, to give the puppies and in some cases new owners the chance to learn about showing.

The show, judging by all the lovely comments we have had was a great success. To keep it as covid safe as possible the ring was outside in the car park, and all the doors to the hall were open and the club provided the food and cups of tea and coffee.

Thanks go to Lillian Rumsey for the fantastic flower decorations for the judges table and trophy table. Nancy Kent for the fabulous prize bags for every competitor. Lorriane Bolton for the Bu News and for working all day in the kitchen with Nancy. Chris Maynard the show manager and for Stewarding all day. Alysha for taking most of the photos as a record of the day. Our hard-working secretary Jenny and the whole committee who pulled together to make the show such a fun filled friendly event and of course all the competitors for entering, without you there would be no show.

Stay safe everyone.
