Breed Notes 2nd January 2026 Margaret Deuchar

NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

I cannot believe that we are in 2026 where did 2025 go? Manchester Ch show is only 2weeks away with Pastoral and Hound Day on Sunday 18th,then of course it will be Crufts on Thursday 5th March with our own Millie Lambert judging .The next Ch show for us will be our own on April 11th with Char John judging ,she last judged the breed at LKA in December 2021 and also gives CCs in Alaskan Malamutes. Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales (No CCs) is a week later Saturday April 18th with Stephen Atkinson judging; he gives CCs in 9 Working and 13 Pastoral breeds. WELKS has no CCs but schedules the breed with Pastoral day being Sunday 26th April the judge is Bridgette Bodle who is a level 2 Buhund judge and gives CCs in 32 breeds across 3 groups .Pastoral day at Birmingham National is Sunday 10th May with Caroline Friend Rees giving CCs in the breed for the first time, she gives CCs in 32 Breeds across 3 Groups. The following Sunday just a week later May 17th it is SKC May show with Fran Kaye judging, she previously judged at Windsor 2022 and gives CCs in 9 working and 13 Pastoral Breeds. For several years now SKC have been running their October show with the May show, and last year they also scheduled the breed in the October show but with no CCs, at the moment there are no details for this show available. Bath Ch show is on May 24th the third Sunday show in a row for the breed it is also Bank Holiday weekend , Addrienne Frost-Treadwell is judging, this is her second time of giving CCs the first time was at Richmond in 2019.Pastroal Day at Blackpool Ch show is also on a Sunday (no CCs ) the judge is Tom Johnston who gives CCs in 101 breeds across all the groups and is Level 2 Judge for Buhunds. Just 4 days later it is Windsor with Darren Clarke holding centre stage for the second time, the first being at LKA in December 21. The next show with CCs is National Working and Pastoral Breeds on Saturday July 11th with Gary Clarke judging, giving CCs in the breed for the first time, he also gives CCs in 10 other breeds in the Pastoral group. Then at Leeds on Saturday 25th July Jill Peak is judging for the 6th time the last being at Welsh Kennel in 2024. Pastoral day WKC this year is Saturday 22nd August with Jeff Horswell judging the breed for the 6th time, the last was in 2024 at SKC. Then onto Sunday 20th September it is Karen Kennedy judging Darlington, she previously judged the breed at Richmond in 2022 and gives CCs in 15 other breeds across 3 groups. Pastoral day at LKA is Sunday 13th December but no judge listed at the moment.

Of course, there are a number of Ch shows that schedule the breed without CCs, but no details of these are available at the moment as to whether they will continue to schedule the breed, hopefully they will as without them the show scene would be quite sparce, some are on weekdays others at weekends. With most of the Ch shows with CCs being at the weekend this year, this should help exhibitors who find it difficult to take time off work. We will be holding a Breed Appreciation Day on March 21st and an open show in the summer and our second Ch show later in the year probably in September more details of these to follow.
