Norwegian Buhunds

The weekend before the Club Show, a number of Buhunds took their owners on a Bumble, many thanks to Marie Corin for telling us about it.
“The weather was perfect for the London Bu Bumble in Regent’s Park on Saturday 5th April, sunny but not too hot. It was a family affair for a few of the participants, as present were Bergen (Ch Kligenthal Almuric) and three of his offspring, Dexter (Mazads Nom de Plume), Luna (Mazads Joie de Vivre) and Rumple (Mazads Le Petit Soldat), joined later on by Bergen’s litter sister Nova (Kligenthal Shadownova). There was a lovely display of both wheaten and black buhunds, because we also had Eris (Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen) and her daughter Raven (Draccus I have a Dream), and the oldest buhund Leo, (Sturtmoors Destiny’s Day). As always, the buhunds turned heads and got a lot of by-passers interested. We took the usual long route through the park, incorporating areas for the dogs to run off lead as well as strolling though sports fields and past London Zoo where the dogs get to look at the camel! We finished with the traditional photo opportunity on the fountain, but getting 8 buhunds to look in the same direction at the same time is a bit of a challenge! ”
On 15th April the Tuesday after the club show,Dr Johanna Guillod Rees took her and huband Nicholas and daughter Bethany’s Draccus Obsidian At Bucamereru (Ruby)along to the Norfolk and Norwich Canine Society Open show ,held in the indoor riding school at the Forest Edge Arena,Swaffham in Norfolk .Below Jo tells of the day .”A miserable start, pouring with rain but that didn’t seem to stop the 1040 dogs turning up. Of course, the breed and handling classes clashed so we executed our Michael Quinney silver versatility and agility award in finding the quickest route between rings. The judge Dr Ian Gabriel awarded Ruby Bob after winning her limit class. We then dashed to JHA handling where Bethany secured her first JHA qualifier of the year 6-11 yrs under Amanda Hill . We then waited 5 hours for the groups judged by Lynn Vidak. Ruby and Bethany performed perfectly but sadly weren’t placed. Another 2 hr wait and a few more cups of tea, we were hoping that many would have left but 19 turned up of the 33 entered for the AV Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakes class, Ruby just got better and better throughout the day, and the judge Simon Luxmoore shortlisted Ruby and then placed her 5th in a very strong class, beating the terrier group winner, whom he judged earlier . You should have seen the smile on Bethany’s face! And £5 pocket money well earned!” Congratulations a long day but worth it, so pleased to see how well Bethany and Ruby are doing now .
Good Friday saw Jenny Shorer-Wheeler take son Ollie Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel (Inky),to Edwinstowe & District Canine Society Premier Show held on the Newark & Notts showground, where she was Best AVNSC Pastoral Puppy and then Pastoral PG 2 under Marianne Bento-Thorpe,this was her last open show as a puppy and gained her another precious JW point .
Easter Saturday 19th April was a very busy day for a number of Buhunds and thier owners.  Nancy Kent took her and Jacque & Michael Cobb’s Knytshall Ragged Robin (Rowdy), to Hyde & District Canine Association’s Open Show at Sutton Leisure Centre St Helen’s Merseyside ,where following up from his Best Dog Puppy Award at the club Ch show ,he was BAVNSC Pastoral Puppy ,and then won the PPG under Sophie Wray Ramsden and was 4th BPIS under Joanna Moakes. Congratulations..
Over the border in Wales it was Working and Pastroal Breeds of Wales Ch show, held on it’s usual venue of The Royal Welsh Showground Builth Wells .The lovely Spring weather of the weekend before had disppeared and the day dawned wet and cold ,although the rain did move away quickly it still remained cold. The breed was 3rd in the ring in Hall 3,but with the two previous breeds only having a total of 12 dogs and with the judging starting at 9.30am it was an early start for those not living or staying locally .Our judge was Gavin Roberson who gives 71 CCs across all the groups and is a Level 2 judge for Buhunds. He found his BD & BOB in Millie Lambert’s Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It (Gunna )his first Ch show as a Junior, while still a puppy at the recent Breed Ch show he celebrated gaining enough points for his Junior Warrant .Here he was later shotlisted in the final 11 in the Pastoral Group under Geoff Duffield .RBD was Jenny Shorer-Wheeler’s Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW (ai)(Muchly). BB & BP Oliver’s Inky handeled by mum Jenny, this win followed up her success at the Club Ch show when she won her first RCC.Jenny left home at silly o’clock on the Saturday to get to the show on time and at the end of the day was the commentator on the live streaming of the Groups and BIS,photograper and reporter on the show for Our Dogs ,so by the time she arrived home it had been a very long and very busy day.
Much further south and back in England ,Lisa Strong had organised a Bu Bumble in Hatfield Forest which is an ancient hunting forest with lakes streams and wooded areas , luckliy it had been quite dry as without many hard paths it can become quite muddy .Lisa and husband Alex took Loki, Eris (Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen With Draccus ) and Raven ( Draccus I Have A Dream( ai), Julia and Anna Engstad took Arven (Wheatshade Brada Hill (ai) Andrea & Andrew Platts went along with Luna (Mazads Joie De Vivre) and Dean Cox and Joe Allen also went along with Oslo (Leggatts Mr Writer) also Bumbling were a Swedish Valhund puppy Atlas and Mochi a Shiba Inu.Joe took some lovely photos of the dogs.
Easter Sunday saw Jacqui Walmsley take her Kerry & Fritz Frost & Addrienne Frost- Treadwell’s Trelowen Amelia At Frostisen (Bunny) to Plymouth & District Canine Society Open Show at The Grange Okehampton, Devon where she was
BOB under Richard Forsythe and 4th in the A.V. KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme class under Richard Morris and again under Richard Forsythe she was 3rd in A.V. Special Veteran Stakes (7-9 years) & 4th AV Pastoral Veteran and under judge Angie Baker 3rd in the AV Open Stakes winning £15 pocket money so a very good day at the office .The next day Easter Monday they went off to Southamton & District Canine Show at a new venue Embly School, Romsey where Bunny was 2nd in the AV Pastoral Veteran under Allyson King and 5th in a huge Good Citizen Stakes also under Allyson winning another £1, over the weekend she gained 5 points for her Veteran Warrant,so a busy but rewarding two days for them both.
Gunna also took Millie along to the Southamton where Gunna continued his winning ways ,by being BOB & G4 under judge Sue Adcock, what a great start he had over the weekend in adult groups .
It has been great to be able to write about so many Buhunds and their owners being out and about keeping the Buhnd Flag flying whether it being Bumbling or showing .
