NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
The same day as Manchester Ch show but further south and east, Sarah Stonton headed to Thetford Rugby club in Norfolk with Pixie aka Wheatshade Snow Dreamer L3 Ex to compete in a Pre Enry National Nosework Trial, where they came away the Reserve Medal.
It was definitely the weekend for Buhunds to be out and about, as below Marie Corin writes about the previous day’s activities held on Saturday 17th January. “Anna Engstad had organised a London Bumble, with everyone meeting at the usual place in Regant’s Park next to the Espresso Bar. On the way there, a young lady walking a Shiba correctly identified our Buhunds and was delighted to meet one ‘in real life’, it is always a happy if somewhat rare occasion when somebody recognises the breed. Given the horrible weather we’d had during the week, we were lucky to have it dry, till mid-day. The turnout was good with 6 Buhunds and an honorary Buhund. Adam and I had our two Bergen and son Dexter , Andrea and Andrew took Luna who is Dexter’s litter sister also joining the fun were Maria Percuklievska with Nova who is Bergen’s litter sister so quite a family affair, also bumbling were Joe and Dean with their boy, Oslo, and Anna and Julia had Arven and her friend Basil, a Greek rescue dog which fitted in well. We set off for a walk around the park which took a good hour. The dogs had a wonderful time together, those that were off lead loving running and exploring. Being a London Park, it was busy with other dog walkers, joggers and team sports players, all of which the dogs were happy to ignore or say hello to. It amused me when some people walking past, on noticing a bunch of similar looking dogs asked if we’d planned to meet up or if it was just a coincidence. Lots of people stopped to look at the Buhunds, some even asked about them, which is always nice and makes us feel that we are in some way helping to promotes our lovely breed.” Now we have no Discover Dogs in London it is a great way to show off the breed.
Roberta Crouch tells us that from February there will be a Buhund in New Zealand for the first time (as far is known),when Miss Pink bred by Diane MacDonald in Perth, and who is by Ch Riverhund Kyon Thunder To Down Under O’Blackombe ex Bibi who is litter sister to Kirsty’s Ch Blackcombe Bodil At Tapui (Imp AUS), travels to her super new home.
I recently heard from Dr Jo that her & husband Nicolas and daughter Bethany Guillods’s Draccus Obsidian At Bucamereru (Ruby) attended a WOF Steeplechase Independent Winter League show, held at White Owl Farm Crowland Lincolnshire where on her third run Bethany and Ruby managed to get round the whole course, something they haves struggled with in the past, despite stopping to check if mum was still insight and ended up 9th, so onwards and upwards.
