NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS

Pastoral and Working Day at Bath Ch show was the fourth day, Bank Holiday Monday May 26th. The show is the third All Breed Show we have had before we have a couple of Ch shows with breed classes but no CCs.Bath show started in 1870 and 50yrs ago was the first show to buy its own ground in the hills above Bath. Of course, as you would predict with the UK summer after two indoor shows held in dry sunny warm weather, the rain arrived intime for Bath, but it was not nearly as bad originally suggested, but there were some very heavy shows on the Saturday and Monday. In the past a couple of times Bath has been aptly named, it was so wet one year we had to park down the road and walk the dogs in, and another year we had to carry the dogs to the ring from their benching tent, but because they own their own ground, they have made improvements especially with drainage. For some years now it has had the popular in/out rings with the benching behind the rings, the show was the first to mark the rings with tape which they can do as the ground is so level.

The show proved to be very special for several Buhunders, the first being our club Secretary Jenny Shorer-Wheeler who was giving CCs in the breed for the first time. We were second in ring 11 after 22 Alaskan Malamutes who were also judged by Jenny, this was her third time of giving CCs in this breed which she successfully showed and bred, before adding Buhunds to her kennel some years ago. She found her BOB & DCC his first he also has 2 RCCS in Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Mazads Nom De Plume (Dexter), he is by their Ch Kligenthal Almuric (SHCEX) x Gladidegelli Arvejente For Rikarlo A.I (Lucy). He is home bred as Lucy joined the Mazad kennel for mating and stayed during her pregnancy and for the rearing of the puppies. To say Marie was thrilled is an understatement, sadly I could not go this year but before the results were up on Fosse, I received a photo of a lovely lead saying Bath Best Of Breed 2025 (which was from Jenny)plus CC & BOB Cards .RDCC his 2nd Millie Lambert’s home bred Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW(Gunna) by Draccus Diamond Day O’ Buhcafrey (Dayo) x Ch Sturtmoor’s Free’N Eezee. Another thrilled exhibitor was Sue Crocker whose Leggatts Jive Talkin (Noodle)gained her title with her third BCC, she also has 4RCCS and is by Sturtmoor Floki x Leggatts Voulez Vous (Tissy). Equally thrilled was Jasmine Freeborn who has handled Noodle since she was a puppy and with whom she lives. Noodle’s first CC came at WKC last year under all-rounder Jill Peak, her second at Crufts this year under breed specialist Di Stirling and now her third under breed specialist Jenny, I think some celebrations took place especially as Jenny had taken some lovely Buhund related cakes, the dogs were not forgotten either with special biscuits. RBCC her first she also has a CC, Dr Jo, Nicolas and Bethany Guillod -Rees Draccus Obsidian at Bucamereru(Ruby,)she is  by Ch Rikarlo Gable JW(Time) x Ch Leggatts Dancing Queen At Draccus(Eris), she was handled by young Bethany, they were also 3rd in the YKC Members Stakes AV Pastoral under  Mr G Davies and VHC in the Junior handling 6-11yrs under Mrs N Scarlett ,so a very successful day. BV Sue Crocker’s Knytshall Noor Ul Ain (Noor) she has 1 CC & 4RCCs and is by Knytshall Diamond Ted x Ch Trollheimen Elske To Knytshall Imp USA. Noor is the dam or Tissy and Eris who are litter sisters so Noodle & Ruby’s grandma, and Eris and Time are Dayo’s parents so many family connections. Happy to say a Ramp was also provided. Jenny has a very busy day judging as after the Buhunds she judged the Canadian Eskimo and Greenland Dogs.

The day before Sue Crocker took Franny aka Leggatts Superstition to a Barn Hunt she found a rat, but not the dead one she was supposed to find, these are in tubes so the dog cannot get at them, but she found a dead one in a pile of straw! Don’t think that was supposed to happen!

Ollie Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW (Inky) has now had her JW confirmed, what a great start to the year with two Buhunds just out of puppy gaining their JWs, which is not easy in a numerically small breed like ours. Millie’s Gunna was just 12mths and 10days and now Inky at 12months 16dys.She is also only the third black that we can remember to have a JW, the first was Knytshall Inka in 1989, then Millie’s King aka Ch Svartkonge Av Strutmoor JW ShCM (Imp Nor) in 2013 and now Inky.

On Sunday June 1st Sarah Stonton took her Pixie aka Wheatshade Snow Dreamer to her first L3 Scentwork UK trial where she was third. The trial was held in Nordelph Vilage Hall Peterborough, and all dogs received prizes of pate, Pixie’s was Tripe and Ostrich, the prizes increased in size or number of tubes according to their placing, even the qualifiers that were not placed had a prize. Sarah says Pixie can now claim her Pewter Club award for points from Showing, Bumbles and Scent, well done.

We have had 6 clear eye tests which is great news. Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW (Inky) she is by Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold At Knytshall x Knytshall Eloise. Ch Koromandel Tusen Takk JW SHCEX OSW (ai)(Muchly), he is by Multi Ch JR Made For Cascilius x Sturtmoor Ffascination With Koromandel. Ch Blackombe Bodil At Tapui(Imp Aus) (Bodi) she is by Aus Ch Kyon’s Urban Legend x Nor/Aus Ch Rennedal’s Brynhild Skjoldmoy. Tapui Herja (Hari) Tapui Herborg (Beanz) Tapui Haraldsson at Jjavacobe (Hogan) are all from the litter by NUCH Kimura’s Harald Harfagre x Ch Blackombe Bodil At Tapui(Imp Aus). Hogan has also had a DNA test for Ataxia and is clear and a hip score of 5.
