NORWEGIAN BUHUNDS
I am sure you know that I love to write about things Buhund owners and their dogs do as well as showing of course. So, I was delighted to receive an article from Lillian Rumsey entitled.
‘Mini EU trip’. ‘Animal Health certificate in hand, we set off on our next adventure with Darcy and Hallie. A trip to France via Le Shuttle (30mins under the sea and you are there; it runs from Folkestone to Calais in France). We visited the Chateau region of France drinking Champagne and visiting the beautiful villages and lovely vineyards, where we spent a few nights. Thankfully the girls left the grapes alone, but they enjoyed the many sniffing opportunities. Then it was over the border into the Black Forest Area of Germany, which was a wonderful place to go with the dogs. Stunning scenery, villages and chateaus and of course fabulous walks in the forest. The Mosel River was the next stop with boat trips along the river where we could again admire fantastic scenery and castles, we also walked along the river, it was the walnut season, but we were better at finding them than the dogs! We had a lot of chill time sitting in cafes, watching the world go by. Last stop was a trip over another border into the Netherlands, Darcy’s country of birth. There we also found a vet to give the dogs their worming tablet before their trip home. He was impressed that they sat and gave a paw for the tablet, of course they thought they were getting a treat. We had more lovely forest walks and saw our first windmill, although the dogs were not too impressed by that ! Ferry back home from Amsterdam to Newcastle. Dog friendly cabin, very good big dog deck, although Hallie was not too impressed by the fake grass! They both loved the cabin, as they got to share our beds! Darcy and Hallie were welcomed nearly everywhere we went. Cafes, restaurants and even some shops. We took them on local buses and of course on the Mosel river cruise, they chilled out in the sun, happily played in puddles, got soaked and muddy all of which meant they slept like angels at night. Their favourite thing was all the attention they received from all the people they met. Sounds a wonderful trip Lillian thanks for sharing it with us. Darcy is aka Kata Syndattir Av Fjeldvidda At Wheatshade (Imp Nld) and Hallie is her daughter Wheatshade Iridium Sky
The trip to Holland did bring back an amusing memory, not long after pet passports came in Debbie and I attended the 2002 World Dog show in Amsterdam, we stayed for several days so that we could see some of the countryside. We had two Buhunds an Elkhound and a Papillon and on one occasion we were walking along the side of a canal when a coach load of Japanese tourists stopped to say hello to the Dutch people and their dogs. It took a bit of explaining!
Wheatshade Snow Dreamer aka Pixie who is Hallie’s litter sister was out and about on 1st November with owner Sarah Stonton going to a Level 4 Scentwork UK trial at Elton in Peterborough, where she was 3rd finding 7out of the 8 hides.
The following day East Kent Canine Society held its Open Show at The Market Hall, Maidstone, Kent. The Buhund judge was Tracey Gray, and she awarded BOB to Marie Corin and Adam Camm’s Ch Kligenthal Almuric (Bergen).
